Submits slides with abnormal cell structures to pathologists for further examination. Documents specimens by verifying patients and specimens information.+ Prepares and analyzes samples such as papanicolaou (PAP) smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs) to detect abnormal conditions.+ Maintains effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety. Adjusts, maintains, or repairs laboratory equipment such as microscopes.+ Performs karyotyping or organizing of chromosomes according to standardized ideograms.+ Assigns tasks or coordinates task assignments to ensure adequate performance of laboratory activities.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities+ Demonstrates sound judgement, patience, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times.+ Ability to work in a busy and stressful environment.+ Ability to work varied shifts.+ Exercises tact, discretion, sensitivity and maintains confidentiality.+ Computer applications, MS Office, EMR, internet applications and standard office equipment.+ Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to the job classification.
