Overview

Breakthrough Energy is seeking a Director of Partnerships. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining reciprocal and sustainable strategic external partnerships and will lead the team's strategy and operations functions, working closely with the VP of Partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a strategic and operational mindset, the ability to effectively communicate and quickly build strong relationships internally and externally and be comfortable advising and delivering on high-level strategic issues while executing more tactical activities. This person will have an entrepreneurial orientation toward landing key programmatic objectives, as they will create, maintain, and coordinate relationships with a diverse set of partners in a complex, ambiguous, and dynamic environment. This role will report to the VP of Partnerships.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition and growth of Breakthrough Energy's go-to-market partnerships in specific "Grand Challenge" sector(s).
  • Develop and implement targeted strategies for growing durable partnerships and initiatives around a range of programmatic priorities for Breakthrough Energy.
  • Build productive and collaborative partnerships with major corporations, funders/investors, and other relevant entities.
  • Lead the strategy and operations functions for the Partnerships team.
  • Work collaboratively across all Breakthrough Energy efforts to understand stakeholder needs and goals, generate meaningful external partnerships, communicate value propositions, identify engagement opportunities, and deliver impact for the organization.
  • Help determine and lead Breakthrough Energy's presence at events and conferences.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of climate change and the acceleration of global availability of new energy infrastructure
  • Deep knowledge and experience leading partnerships, business development, and/or related functions within high-paced, fast-growing organizations with a preference of at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong track record of relationship building and collaboration across a diverse group of stakeholders, particularly in the climate space
  • Attention to detail in program execution and partnership management
  • Humble, kind, and highly collaborative, with a willingness to pitch in on projects at all levels
  • Able to easily navigate diverse internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Exceptional negotiation, influencing, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial orientation with experience thriving through ambiguity and change
  • San Francisco Bay Area, Washington D.C., New York City, Boston, or Seattle Area are preferred locations for this position. Candidates must be based in a state where Breakthrough Energy is registered or already has an established presence.

The starting salary range for this position is $190,000 to $225,000 annually. Salary offers within this range will vary depending on several factors that include but are not limited to education, experience, skills, relevant certifications, and other qualifications. Employees may also be eligible for bonuses based on individual performance.
