The Community Support position will provide support and assistance across several HSVB programs and departments, with an emphasis on community outreach and support services, intake diversion, lost and found and animal admissions. They will be community outreach minded, enjoy working with a diverse cross section of people and strive for excellence.

The role involves building lasting relationships within the community to provide service to families with pets in need. The Community Support team will conduct interviews with people surrendering animals or turning in found stray animals and obtain detailed information about animals being surrendered. Assist with completing intake procedures for all animals being admitted to HSVB. Provide daily care and enrichment for shelter animals as assigned. Provide general information to the public. Conduct daily animal husbandry routines as needed. Assist with euthanasia procedures (if certified as a CET in accordance with the regulations of the State of Florida and the AVMA). They will be knowledgeable about basic computer operations, navigating Windows OS, and the ability to become proficient in the utilization of the Chameleon animal shelter database.

The CS team acts as a resource and support center for pet owners. The CS team utilizes safe and respectful (Fear Free) animal handling practices while assisting the public with a surrendered animal, admitting a found animal, helping an animal return home to an owner, or problem-solving ways to keep a pet in their home.

This is an hourly position which reports directly to the Director of Operations.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:Include the following, but are not limited to:

- Complete daily cleaning routine - maintaining assigned area in a clean, organized, and attractive manner as scheduled.
- Evaluate and assist with the behavior observations of new arrivals as required.
- Perform minor medical tasks such as conducting initial physical examinations, scanning for microchip presence, administering sub-Q vaccinations and oral general de-wormers.
- Photograph each animal and upload to the individual’s record.
- Actively assist in reuniting lost/found animals with their respective owners/families to include checking lost & found reports, social media sites and the like.
- Assist, as scheduled, at special and mobile offsite events.
- Assist with animal transports as needed.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records in HSVB’s animal shelter software regarding animal history, pertinent owner information and any records, forms and documents related to case management.
- Ensure appropriate standards of care are executed regarding scheduling animals for intake, vaccines and/or other approved medical services - relaying medical or behavior concerns to clinic staff.
- Assist with scheduling owner relinquishment or humane euthanasia appointments.
- Promote positive relationships with the general public, volunteers and staff while promoting HSVB programs, policies and philosophies.
- Work directly with management team and coworkers ensuring the highest standards in shelter operations.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management and the public at all times.
- Wear appropriate, clean uniform, footwear and name tag at all times during business hours.
- Provide program support across HSVB departments as assigned.
- May assist in preparation and response for any/all emergencies and disasters directly impacting HSVB and the Community Support programs.
- Must have flexible schedule with weekend and holiday availability.

- Valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment and a driving record acceptable to the HSVB insurance carrier.
- Regular in person, on-site attendance is an essential function of this position.
