PURPOSE: Counsel, monitor and enforce all kosher dietary laws and follow policies as set forth by the Orthodox Union (OU). Provide courteous, personalized service to customers through the preparation and sale of products in the fresh meat and/or service deli and/or service in accordance with kosher food handling and operational procedures. Assist in all aspects of merchandising in accordance with company standard, in the Kosher departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Trains department associates in all kosher food area activities, policies and procedures.
- Checks in and responsible for transporting all products that come into these areas to verify that all items and ingredients delivered to the store for sale in the Kosher departments, are approved by the OU standard.
- Implements proper and efficient product preparation and packaging techniques. Ensure that kosher dietary laws in food preparation are being followed and that cross contamination with non-kosher foods or utensils does not occur. Checks each piece of meat for proper seals and labels before releasing to butcher for cutting. Uses and operates related equipment such as saws, scales, meat tenderizers, meat slicers, grinders, cubers, meat wrapping machines, kitchen utensils, fryers, conventional and microwave ovens, slicers, grills, food processors, wrappers, scales, handtrucks and pallet jacks.
- Verify that all kosher meat items prepared at store level have been signed by the Mashgiach, letting customers know that the preparation was supervised according to kosher dietary laws. Turns on all cooking equipment in order to fulfill requirement of Jewish participation in cooking. Ensures that all meat items offered for self service sale are properly sealed, marked and signed.
- Locks Kosher areas and equipment at the end of the work day and opens at the beginning of the day. Secures Kosher labels under his/her lock and key
- Communicates with and assists customers in various kosher related issues in a courteous manner.
- Maintain kosher products in the grocery department and assist other kosher departments.
- Attend all store meetings and add expertise in terms of seasonal merchandising and sales needs of the kosher consumer
- Coach and provide information to store management and all department managers in terms of kosher merchandising, product variety and potential labor requirements according to seasonal and market changes that affect the kosher consumer’s purchasing patterns.
- Assist Corporate and Divisional Category Manager(s) in executing Kosher programs in their particular store. Share information and ideas that may help increase our Kosher business and/or make our customers lives easier. This may include competitive price checks, community feedback, product suggestions, etc.
- Grow and maintain sales and professional esteem for the company in terms of community relations by attracting new customers and customer groups to shop at Jewel/Acme/Albertson’s.
- Efficiently and continuously train Staff Mashgiach/Mashgichim in all skills and responsibilities required of the Lead Mashgiach position to ensure continued execution of all responsibilities and goals of this position, the store and the Company.

- Wrapping - Prepare product for self-service sale by wrapping, weighing, and pricing in accordance with department specifications.
- Service - Service customer requests at the meat service or deli counter, providing custom trimming and slicing, special orders and routine sales as requested.
- Stocking - Assure that all stock is maintained in an orderly fashion and at the appropriate level by restocking cases and shelves as needed to assure that adequate inventory levels of each product are displayed to avoid lost sales from product shortages. Maintains kosher meat case, kosher service deli case and kosher meat deli self serve case for cleanliness, visual appeal and inventory levels. Responsible for ensuring the proper cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of kosher meat area and kosher service deli area and equipment and for ensuring a safe work environment
- Quality - Follow stock rotation guidelines to assure that distressed and close dated product is removed
