Day Club Assistant

Under the direction and supervision of the Day Club Director, a Day Club assistant performs tasks that involve specific services for clients that are supportive and complimentary to individual care requirements including but not limited to assistance while eating, toileting, necessary grooming and cleanliness; and conducts activity programs designed for clients experiencing dementia by the Day Club Director.

**Qualifications**:

- Graduation from High School preferred. Course work in recreation, nursing, gerontology, or related fields is desireable.
- Ability to clearly speak and write in English
- Ability to effectively communicate with Day Club Participants and lead small group activity programs.
- Ability to understand and carry out directions or instructions, both written and verbal.
- Ability to record messages and keep simple records.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Will be required to submit fingerprints for criminal record review. Background clearance is required.

**Personal Requirements**:

- Good physical health with no limitations
- Good mental health and emotional maturity
- Ability to accept correction and close supervision
- Acceptable personal grooming and cleanliness
- Possession of a genuine interest in and concern for people suffering from dementia
- Abiliity to maintain an understanding and accepting attitude with residents
- Ability to maintain a pleasant, helpful, and curteous manner with all residents, personnel, volunteers, and visitors
- Willingness to perform a variety of simple, repetitive tasks that may involve unpleasant conditions and maintain patience and tact.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Adheres to the daily schedule of duties outlined by the Day Club Director
- Assists with Activities of Daily living
- Assists Day Club Participants with personal cleanliness, grooming, nourishment, rest, activity, and toileting in a manner conducive to the resident's comfort, safety, and dignity.
- Practices confidentiality regarding information of Day Club Participants
- Conducts routine and ongoing resident assessments and reports changes in the resident's attitude, appearance, behavior, and physical ability to the Day Club Director
- Conducts and assists with recreational and social activity programs as assigned
- Recognizes and respects the individual participant's emotional, social, cultural, and religious needs and beliefs.
- Is accountable for always knowing the whereabouts of all assigned Day Club Participants
- Attends and participates in orientation and in-service training meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned.
