**Position Overview**:
**Salary & Advancement**:
The Claims Specialist position is a career ladder position with a paid training program. Entry level into this position is typically at the GS-5 ($39,576) or GS-7 ($49,025) level with advancement opportunity to the GS-11 ($72,553-$94,317) level.

**Technical Training**:
A Claims Specialist completes an intense on-line/ on-the-job training program. This program provides the necessary technical instruction in SSA programs and prepares new employees to interview, furnish information, and provide assistance to the general public and beneficiaries on matters relating to SSA programs and Medicare. Trainees will work in the office full time for at least the first 3 months of training. After the initial training period, approval may be given to work at home up to 2 days per week.

**Work/Life Balance**:

- Work 8 flexible hours daily 7 AM-5:30 PM M-F.

- 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
- You won’t take work home with you and you will not be “on call”.
- In-person learning 5 days per week in the office for at least the first 3 months. Approved employees can work from home up to 2 days each week after the initial training period.

**Qualifications**:
To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen and have:
A bachelor's degree in any field; **or**

Three years of general experience that demonstrates the ability to;
a. Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions;
b. Plan and organize work; and

c. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
