**Salary & Advancement**:
The Customer Service Representative position is a career ladder position with a paid training program. Entry level into this position is typically at the GS-5 ($39,576) or GS-6 ($44,117) level with advancement opportunity to the GS-8 ($54,292-$70,578) level. Future career development includes, but is not limited to, the Claims Specialist. SSA offers numerous other development opportunities.

**Technical Training**:
A Customer Service Representative completes an intense on-line/ on-the-job training program. This program provides the necessary technical instruction in SSA programs and prepares new employees to interview, furnish information, and provide assistance to the general public and beneficiaries on matters relating to SSA programs and Medicare.

**Outstanding Benefits Package**:
SSA employees have federal pensions, participate in the Thrift Savings Plan (401K/ IRA), receive health insurance, life insurance, health savings accounts and dependent care accounts. There are 11 federal holidays per year, 13-26 vacation days per year (13 days to start, 20 days after 3 years, 26 days after 15 years), and 13 paid sick days per year.

**Work/Life Balance**:

- Work 8 flexible hours daily 7 AM-5:30 PM M-F.
- Choose to work more than 8 hours per day? You are compensated with additional time off or overtime pay.
- 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
- You won’t take work home with you and you will not be “on call”.
- In-person learning 5 days per week in the office for at least the first 3 months. Approved employees can work from home up to 2 days each week after the initial training period.

**Qualifications**:
To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen, have excellent communication skills, a degree OR related experience:
Experience conducting face to face and/ or telephone interviews to obtain/ provide information to resolve problems; **or**

4-year course of study above high school; **or**

Equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Pay: $39,576.00 - $54,292.00 per year
