Our team is responsible for building highly scalable, available, and low-latency solutions, parsing through complex shopping patterns, including statistical analysis. We are looking for a Software Development Manager who will lead his team to build foundational services and dive into customer metrics to make data-driven decisions in the core shopping areas of search. You will drive major improvements to our customers' search experience, surfacing them the most relevant, personalized, and inspirational results.

To succeed in this role, you need to be a self-starter who enjoys bringing clarity, simplicity, and direction to highly ambiguous challenges, keep up with evolving technologies that the rest of the Search teams are building, pivot the strategies and improve the systems dynamically based on the customer feedback. You enjoy working with multiple teams, Senior and Principal engineers across the organization, and Product Owners. You lead your team to execute with speed and rigor in designing experiments, working with PMs, analyzing results, and iterating towards success as needed to better serve the overall vision and strategy.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead a two-pizza team. Hire, grow, and retain your team
- Working on business strategy to define a product roadmap that’s compelling and focused on Search
- Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to develop, design and bring to live, innovative features
- Design and build technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in Search platform
- Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage and use
- Excellent problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
