The Cardiac Sonographer 1 performs basic to intermediate cardiac ultrasound services and procedures for adult patients, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms. These procedures are used to diagnose and assess cardiac abnormalities. Responsibilities include preparing equipment, prepping patients, explaining procedures, reviewing images, reporting findings, and examining patient clinical history to identify the purpose of the examination. The Cardiac Sonographer 1 will frame the clinical question the examination is intended to answer and expand the examination as necessary to provide accurate diagnostic information.

**Essential Functions of the Role**:

- Perform basic to advanced cardiac ultrasound procedures using a variety of equipment and techniques.
- Make necessary measurements required for accurate interpretation and high-quality results.
- Identify and define cardiac abnormalities, extending the scope of the examination as needed.
- Assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing echocardiographic studies to aid in complex procedures.
- Assist in performing transesophageal studies with a cardiologist, including calculating measurements and sterilizing the probe.
- Prepare patients for procedures and obtain clinical history, adjusting imaging techniques to ensure comprehensive and diagnostic echocardiograms.
- Record statistics and maintain the Echocardiography Lab and its equipment, reporting malfunctions as appropriate.
- Act as a resource for other staff, physicians, and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.
- Work closely with the cardiac sonographer quality coordinator to adhere to quality processes and protocols and assist with IAC accreditation activities.
- Implement protocols as new technology evolves and ensure system echocardiography standards are followed.

**Key Success Factors**:

- Understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to explain the purpose of echocardiographic examinations to patients and answer their questions.
- Familiarity with approved clinical protocols for cardiovascular ultrasound examinations.
- Knowledge of proper infection control and precautionary procedures.
- Understanding of relevant laws regarding patient confidentiality and privacy.
- Effective oral and written communication skills with healthcare providers, including sonographers, physicians, and nurses.
- Proficiency in medical terminology.
- Skilled in using computers and medical equipment.

**Qualifications**:

- **Education**: Graduate of an Accredited Program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification
- **Experience**: Less than 1 year of experience
- **Certification/License/Registration**:

- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer.

Pay: $53,000.00 - $101,000.00 per year
