The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applicants to support the laboratory of Dr. Fernando Ruiz for a experienced Laboratory Specialist. Lab Specialists provide technical support by performing complex lab and research-related tasks. They specialize in research methods and equipment functions specific to investigations, adapting methods and procedures to meet research needs.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide technical support in laboratory environments, executing complex lab and research-related tasks.
- Act as specialists in research methods and equipment functions relevant to ongoing investigations.
- Adapt methods and procedures as necessary to meet the evolving needs of research projects.
- Undertake diverse and longer-term assignments, showcasing expertise in addressing non-routine challenges.
- Perform daily activities autonomously, demonstrating proficiency and reliability in executing tasks without supervision.
- Provide oversight and guidance on longer-term assignments, ensuring their successful completion.
- Facilitate training sessions for team members on work processes and policies, contributing to knowledge dissemination and skill development within the organization.

**Minimum Requirements**:

- Education: Bachelor's degree. Six years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Experience: Three years of experience.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience in laboratory settings, with a focus on research-related tasks.
- Strong adaptability and problem-solving skills, essential for addressing non-routine challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

This is restricted 12-month position. This position may be renewed dependent on grant funding. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
