Part-time Upper School Musical Director

**Job Summary**

Working closely with the Stage Director and other members of the show’s creative team, the music director oversees all musical aspects of the WIS Upper School Musical, including selecting the musical (along with the Stage Director), leading all musical aspects of the audition process, helping to cast actors/singers, hiring the pit orchestra musicians, rehearsing singers and orchestra members, and conducting the pit orchestra in performance located in the WIS (Washington International School) Black Box Theatre).

This is a contracted, extra-curricular position that will run from approximately the third week in August to the third week in November. This position will require regular weekday rehearsals after school, and some weekend rehearsals (as the show gets closer to opening). The show will most likely be selected in May/June by the Music Director and Stage Director, and the licensing rights will need to be procured.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Schedules and oversees separate music rehearsals for cast and for pit orchestra..
- Leads warm-ups for singers before each show.
- Accompanies singers on piano.
- Conducts the orchestra during the performance
- Consults with the technical director aon sound/audio aspects of the show.
- Show willingness to be available to students within contractual hours.

**Qualifications**
- Demonstrated experience music-directing musical theater productions at the high school level or equivalent, with a proven track record of successful productions.
- Strong knowledge of musical theater repertoire, including classic and contemporary musicals, as well as proficiency in vocal coaching, music arranging, transposition, and orchestration.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.
- At least three (3) years of relevant teaching experience. Experience working at an IB school preferred.

To perform the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; to exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; to hear and understand speech at reasonable levels, outdoors and on the telephone; to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly, outdoors and on the telephone; to exhibit physical agility to lift up to 35 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
