DIRECTOR OF NURSING - Galveston, TX

The Director of Nursing is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and support for an Emergency Facility. The DON ensures the delivery of quality care to patients and is responsible for planning, implementing, reviewing, and controlling the budget, staffing, and Continuous Quality Improvement process. The DON must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patient services and must understand the principles of growth and development across different life cycles.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Care:

- Monitoring and directing all patient care activities.
- Minimizing patient complaints and ensuring patient satisfaction.

Personnel Management:

- Reviewing and approving all new hires.
- Establishing and controlling standards for performance appraisals.
- Identifying and meeting staffing needs.
- Remaining available, accessible, and visible to staff and being on call 24/7.
- Supporting facility-based goals, which contribute to the success of the facility.
- Serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
- Promoting professional growth and development by meeting continuing education requirements.

Strategic Planning and Policy:

- Establishing the scope of service and goals and developing a strategic plan.
- Staying updated on new developments in the field.
- Reviewing departmental policies, procedures, and systems.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and standards.
- Conducting appropriate promotional activities.

Budget Management:

- Ensuring revenue, expenses, contribution margin, and FTEs do not exceed the budget.
- Preparing and submitting budgets and related reports.
- Forecasting and projecting expenses accurately.
- Taking corrective actions to address negative variances.
- Proposing capital budget items appropriately.

Physician Collaboration:

- Including medical staff in planning new or revised policies, procedures, and/or services.
- Providing rapid response and follow-up on medical staff issues.
- Greeting and orienting new physicians with department services.

Safety and Compliance:

- Ensuring safe patient care by adhering to policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

- Maintain HIPAA compliance and uphold patient integrity and privacy.
- Complete daily responsibilities such as cleaning, stocking, and organizing.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Promote a positive work environment through appropriate communication.
- Be a valuable team member and assist with tasks as needed.
- Maintain a professional appearance and personal hygiene.
- Adhere to company’s guiding principles and policies.
- Display professionalism in job performance and practice.
- Communicate needs through the proper chain of command.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

- Current licensure through the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
- At least five years of progressive clinical experience in Critical Care, ER, or ICU.
- Professional certification in a clinical area or management.
- Proven leadership experience and career progression.
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Successful completion of clinical orientation with proven skills and knowledge.
- Critical thinking skills and ability to work autonomously.
- Understanding of clinical care and privacy.
- Proven excellence in time management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Observable professionalism, productivity, and customer service.
- Takes initiative and seeks to improve workflow efficiency.
- Maintains skill level through continuing education and collaborative training.

Pay: From $150,000.00 per year
