**Primary Purpose**:
The Community Health Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting and managing key initiatives in the Health and Human Services Department. This includes work across all the HHS divisions including Public Health, School Health, and Social Services. The Coordinator will support the work of various staff leaders in these different divisions and may have independent projects and initiatives to lead. The Coordinator will also work with external partners from community-based organizations, health care institutions, and local businesses. Key initiatives will vary over time, but some examples include substance use, suicide prevention, food and environmental safety, vaccine clinics, mental health, affordable housing, and youth programming. Communication is also a key responsibility of the role including but not limited to, social media management, designing and implementing program/initiative outreach, resource guides, and newsletters.

**Supervision**:

- Scope and Judgment: This position requires excellent judgement, polished professional skills, superior organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The position is responsible for moving long term projects forward and keeping them on schedule and done to the highest standards without daily oversight. Critical thinking, self-motivation, and a passion for serving the public are all key elements of the role._

**Job Environment**:
Work is performed under typical office conditions as well as other settings including community-based settings.

Frequent contact with the general public, other city departments and officials, outside agencies, businesses, vendors, and other governmental organizations and attorneys, etc. Communication is by means of in person meetings, telephone, online meeting platforms, personal discussion, and correspondence and involves discussing routine and confidential information, requiring patience, courtesy, and judgment.

The work is often unpredictable and requires flexibility.

Has access to confidential and sensitive information. Errors in judgment could result in significant delay or loss of services, legal ramifications, adverse public relations, and monetary loss.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the work of the Directors of Public Health Services, Social Services, and School Health Services by creating communication and educational materials, event planning, handling logistics of program implementation, compiling information, and other related activities.
- Support departmental initiatives and programs including vaccine clinics, mental health education, substance use prevention, food and environmental health and safety, school nursing, and youth programming.
- Use a health equity lens to assess and understand community health status, needs, and priorities for public health programming.
- Assist with developing and implementing evidence-based community health programs relevant to the needs of the Newton community.
- Assist with evaluating the impact of departmental initiatives.
- Create health education materials (social media, website content, flyers, newsletters, and presentations) to engage and inform lay and professional audiences.
- Assist with the preparation of plans, reports, memos, and press releases.
- Assist with grant management, including writing grant proposals and ensuring deliverables are met, budgets are managed, and reports are submitted in a timely fashion.
- Participate in and facilitate meetings of coalitions, task forces, and committees, including scheduling and taking minutes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
Education, Training, and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, communications or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Willing to consider recently graduated undergraduates.

**Requirements**:

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel and experience using databases
- Experience designing flyers, infographics, social media posts, and other communication materials using basic graphic design programs such as Canva
- Strong commitment to public service
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license preferred.
