**Director of Outreach, LPD**
- Job Summary:

- The **Director of Outreach** will serve as a spokesperson and key external representative of the Institute for Humane Studies on issues related to the Liberalism, Pluralism, and Democracy portfolio through written commentary, public speaking engagements, and regular event attendance. Reporting to the Managing Director of Programs and Partnerships, this role will serve as the face of IHS, effectively communicating our mission, values, and programs to a diverse range of audiences, including non-profit leaders, faculty, and donors. As an individual engaged in key conversations around the future of liberal democracy, this person will be responsible for proactively identifying opportunities to advance IHS’s mission and build stronger brand awareness by developing key relationships with external stakeholders.

- Duties/Responsibilities:

- Produce at least one op-ed, blog post, or other form of written communication for publication per week on themes related to liberalism, pluralism, and democracy.
- Regularly attend events in the Washington, DC, area as a representative of IHS, serving as a key thought partner to other organizations working in the liberalism and democracy space.
- Identify high-impact individuals, organizations, and new business opportunities for IHS that span beyond the traditional academic landscape through effective outreach and networking.
- Serve as an internal leader and consultant on trending topics around liberalism, democracy, and speech issues.
- Proactively identify opportunities to increase the visibility and influence of the organization with key partners and audiences.
- Identify and flag opportunities to create content or collaborate on content with partners and scholars.
- Collaborate with the Leadership, Communications and Marketing, and other teams to align messaging with broader organizational goals.
- Authentically project, reflect, and represent the mission, vision, and values of IHS through attendance and active participation at events.
- Up to 30% travel required, primarily in the Northeastern United States.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

- 5+ years of experience in non-profits, journalism, or related field.
- Track record of high-quality written commentary.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- A deep understanding, connection to, and appreciation for classical liberal ideas.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and build rapport.
