We are looking for someone who is reliable, collaborative, outgoing, has documentation skills, and can handle difficult situations calmly.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
**Public engagement**
- Address the health and wellness needs of at-risk library customers, which include those experiencing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and housing instability.
Assess resources and make individualized referrals to various community services
- including needs assessment information and follow up.
- Serve as a resource to the general public by holding office hours, responding to inquiries and providing information on the various types of services, programs, and projects available for the community at the library.
**Community group engagement**
- Develop, coordinate, and implement community-centered services and events that are responsive to the existing and emergent needs of the community including customers of all ages in need of social service referrals.
- Connect, build, and maintain collaborative relationships with area community and social service agencies, Montclair and Essex County social services staff, and other township and county departments, including the Township Social Worker.
**Staff engagement**
- Coordinate and provide training for staff to enhance understanding of mental health, substance abuse, and housing issues, and skills such as boundary setting and de-escalation techniques.
- Provide non-clinical consultation to staff following difficult customer interactions.
**Documentation**
- Collect and maintain data to generate outcomes. Analyze these outcomes to determine if goals generated through staff and patron feedback and set by MPL are being met. Complete program reports regarding services provided and known outcomes.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Experience with library, community, non-profit, social services, or government program management.
- Experience working with disadvantaged individuals suffering from mental illness, chronic illness, veterans, or homelessness.
- Experience working with children and families.
- Strong communication skills and experience with public speaking.
- Strong coordination and program planning skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Effective collaboration and networking skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethics and a calm demeanor.
- Ability to successfully synthesize and communicate information related to public health, public policy, or related social issues and concerns.
- Ability to work effectively with and in diverse populations.
- Ability to manage and execute multiple tasks/projects independently.
To better serve our diverse communities, fluency in a language other than English is highly preferred.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Masters Degree in Social Work.
- Minimum of two years of post-graduate experience in social work, public health, health information/education, or related field.
**Weekly Hours**: 28 in-person hours including daytimes, some evenings and some Saturdays - the ability to work a flexible schedule is a plus.
**Salary**: $34.34 per hour with a MSW degree.
