**Duties**:
**As a Transportation Analyst, you will**:

- Maintain the Geospatial layers within FRA such as the North American Rail Network (NARN), Grade Crossings, Grants, Mileposts, etc.
- Develop solutions using spatial analysis based on current requirements.
- Identify improvements of new functionality and efficiencies to utilize the most current GIS technology to provide better decision making for leadership and stakeholders.
- Support the FRA Geospatial Information Officer (GIO) with the STB Carload Waybill Sample mapping and data products and with the maintenance and development of the FRA GIS program by providing support to internal and external stakeholders.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- **GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD**: This position involves travel. A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only.
- **PROBATIONARY PERIOD**: Applicants may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).
- **REMOTE WORK**:This position may be eligible for remote work, which does not require reporting to the agency worksite location on a regular basis. If selected for a remote work location, you will be required to sign a remote work agreement detailing agency remote work policy requirements, working conditions, and expectations for the position.
- **RAILROAD STOCK**:Pursuant to 5 C.F.R. Parts 2635.403 and 6001.104, all FRA employees (or spouses or minor children of FRA employees) are specifically prohibited from holding railroad stock (including shares of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. which owns 100% of BNSF), whether held outright, in an IRA, or in a 401(k) or other plan. (Employees may hold a mutual fund which invests in railroad stocks, so long as the mutual fund does not invest more than 30% of its assets in such prohibited investments.) Employees having a prohibited financial interest must divest themselves of railroad stock within 90 days after their appointment to their positions. Neither the rule against holding railroad stock, nor the divestiture period, is in any way affected by the existence of re-employment rights which employees might have with railroad companies. Nor is there any monetary threshold for applicability of the rule against ownership of railroad stock; all dollar amounts are prohibited.

**Qualifications**:
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet either the education or experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

**To qualify for the GS-09 on Experience,** you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-07 it must include:

- Experienced in Geographic Information Systems to effectively utilize system as a tool.
- Experience in oral, visual, and written communications to prepare briefing papers, reports, and analyses for review by management officials.

**To qualify for the GS-11 on Experience, **you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-09 it must include:

- Experience in Geographic Information Systems to effectively utilize system as a tool to assist in FRA railroad safety initiatives and program requirements.
- Experience in oral, visual, and written communications to prepare briefing papers, reports and analyses for review by management officials.

**To qualify for the GS-11 on Education alone,** you must have:
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
