Direct Support Professional

Bertha Izalee Matella LLS, is seeking Direct Care Staff Professionals to provide defined, non skilled care services under the supervision of the Administrator to enable the client to live in the home. The employee is non licensed who will provide personal care, homemaking services in a home setting to clients and families who are unable to perform these activities independently.
Care staff are compassionate, dependable leaders who support the clients everyday need. Direct Support Professionals take care of people suffering from disabilities by providing direct support services and encouraging the clients to lead an independent life and to stay integrated within their communities.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provides direct care to those with intellectual, physical, and cognitive disabilities.
- Performs personal care tasks, including assistance with personal hygiene and grooming, feeding, and ambulation, and health care related tasks.
- Assistance with ambulation, transfers, range of motion exercise, safe use of equipment and assistive devices (walker, crutches, cane) change of position.
- Ensures client safety and maintaining a safe environment.
- Fosters positive relationship with emotional support and motivation through conversation, encouragement of self-help activities and recreational activities
- Reports changes in client’s condition or family situation to administrators, clinical team and supervisors.
- Providing, recording and maintaining of appropriate records, weekly notes, medication dispensing and special incident reporting.
- Performs functions such as housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning.
- Plans meals, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving food/meals, feeding and clean-up.
- Accompanies clients to scheduled appointments and transports clients or running errands for clients.
- Assists with toileting, including bedpans, urinals, and commode chairs as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality, respect HIPPA laws and personnel matters with discretion and understanding the impact **on **consumers, business and employees
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, and dressing
- Support individuals in meal preparation and medication management
- Monitor and record vital signs as needed
- Engage individuals in social activities and community outings
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for the individuals
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses and social workers, to ensure comprehensive care
- Implement care plans tailored to individual needs
**Experience**:
**Required Skills/Abilities**:
- Ability to accurately follow and process written and verbal instructions
- Communication skills (verbally and written/typed) with all levels of personnel, internal and external to the company.
- Aide in a healthcare environment; completion of at least 12 hours of training.
- Ability to provide a fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice.
- Ability to demonstration accurate medication dispensing and managing healthcare needs of clients.
- Able to document behaviors, specific events and cause for concerns with health and behavioral needs and challenges.
- Must pass background check requirements.
**Education and Experience**:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- One year minimum of continuous experience as a Home Health Aide or Nurse
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Level I, II, III, IV Client experience
- CPR Certified
**Physical Requirements**:
- Ability to handle physical aspects of job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time
- Visual and hearing capacities functioning at a level sufficient enough to provide for managing the care of consumers to ensure both physical and behavioral needs are met
- Must be able to assist with lifting all clients
- Very good physical condition and endurance
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 - 38 per week
