RTI's Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group brings together RTI experts and capabilities across food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R will leverage RTI's experience designing and delivering multisectoral programming and technical solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world**.**

**SG&R’s Energy Division** is working to develop and implement low emission energy technology alternatives, raise private financing for energy infrastructure, bring efficiency to utilities, work with governments on legal and regulatory reforms to alleviate bottlenecks in energy generation and consumption, and increase access to green energy to sustain economic growth and reduce poverty. We serve as a chosen partner for USAID’s Power Africa program in sub-Sahara Africa and have an established international energy portfolio of over $300 million across Africa, Asia, Pacific Islands, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

**Position Description**:
RTI International is recruiting for an **Energy and Climate Director. **This position is an opportunity for an experienced energy and climate sector management professional seeking to expand their technical implementation, management, business development, and research experience. The work will entail supporting a rapidly growing energy portfolio of international development (including USAID-funded) projects and business development growth.

**Responsibilities**:

- PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION_
- Responsible for responsive, compliant, and impactful programming through the monitoring and advising of overall operational and technical quality of deliverables.
- Responsible for the accuracy of project timelines, tasks, milestones, resource requirements, costs, risks and execution.
- Using key performance indicators, address performance issues and maintain alignment with the division's strategic business goals.
- Support the Chief of Party and Portfolio Director in the definition and execution of project activities; the development of plans, schedules, budgets and deliverable; and performance issues with project staff and sub-contractors or sub-awardees.
- Monitor and review project budget and expenditures, financial forecasts, working with business partners to ensure compliance with corporate and client regulations.
- Responsible for meeting project financial goals.
- Review deliverables invoicing and staff sold time for accuracy and timeliness.
- Regularly confer with client to get performance feedback and to resolve problems or issues should they arise.
- Lead project status updates in IDG’s review process, ensure control, and escalate issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
- May directly supervise Chief of Party of other Project Management Team staff (Operations Managers, Project Coordinators, Project Associates, etc.).
- BUSINESS AND PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT _
- Serve as a technical contributor for proposal solutioning, conceptualizing energy sector approaches, teaming strategies, partner negotiations.
- Contribute to business capture through engagement in capture trips; preparation of expressions of interest in response to client requests for information; inputs to develop technical content for marketing materials pertaining to energy projects, new technologies and implementation approaches.
- Actively build and leverage professional networks in the energy sector, to assist in recruitment of future team members.
- Contribute to RTI thought leadership in global energy development, including published technical articles, papers, and reports in technical areas, as well as presentations, seminars and workshops on relevant topics.
- RESEARCH and WRITING_
- Conduct market and sector analysis covering financial, economic, commercial, regulatory and policy aspects of energy development for specific countries.
- Develop sector-wide or issue-based assessments for specific countries, technologies, or markets.
- Conduct research on new technologies and emerging trends in the energy sector.
- Contribute technical expertise to specific writing assignments (e.g. blog posts, reports, impact stories) as identified by clients.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree and 18 years of experience, Master's degree and 14 years of experience, PhD and 10 years of experience.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in the energy sector required. Experience and demonstrated success in building capacity of emerging market counterparts
