**Summary of Job**:
The City of Verona Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill a Public Works Utility Maintenance Worker vacancy. This position is responsible for performing all tasks in assisting the Lead Water Operator’s duties involving the installation, repair, maintenance and operations of the City of Verona’s potable water treatment, storage, and distribution system. This position will also assist with the operation and maintenance of the sanitary utility and also performs snow removal, general maintenance activities, and repairs and maintains roadways. Work is performed under general supervision. This position reports to the Public Works Utility Superintendent, designated management staff, and will receive day-to-day operational direction from the Lead Water Operator.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:
Examples of the specific tasks of the Public Works Maintenance Utility Worker include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Perform underground service (all City asset’s) alert locating, marking and notification per Digger’s Hotline requests.
- Reads well meters and maintains daily records.
- Adds fluoride and chlorine and maintains daily records. Tests for residual levels daily.
- Maintains pumping equipment, water mains, chemical feed equipment and well houses.
- Takes static and pumping water levels and keeps records.
- Operates supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA).
- Operate hydrants semi-annually to flush mains and makes necessary repairs.
- Exercises valves yearly and makes necessary repairs.
- Makes inspections and necessary repairs of water laterals.
- Raises, repairs and lowers curb boxes and manholes to the appropriate grade.
- Operate and maintain various pieces of equipment such as dump truck, skid steer and articulated loaders, excavator, snow plow with wing and ice control equipment, tractor, street sweeper, utility truck, brush chipper, paint striper, power tools, etc.
- Perform maintenance and repairs to City streets, sidewalks and curb as needed.
- Perform landscaping tasks to include reseeding/re-sodding damaged grass areas.
- Participate in the snow and ice control operation. This position is required to respond to after-hours snow removal emergencies.
- Perform routine maintenance on public buildings and properties.
- Participate in the after-hours emergency on-call roster.
- Attend training to meet state primacy agency’s continuing education requirements.
- Perform all work functions in an efficient manner while maintaining the highest quality service possible, and while following the proper procedures for workplace safety.
- Perform inspections of sanitary manholes and collection systems, and make repairs as necessary.
- Perform routine maintenance of sanitary sewer infrastructure.
- Perform any other related duties that are not listed here that may be required for this position, or as assigned.

**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:
The Public Works Maintenance Utility Worker must possess the following:

- Must have knowledge of and experience with operating medium duty equipment, power tools, and specialized equipment typically found in the water and sewer industry.
- Knowledge of the safety precautions required to perform duties.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to perform math functions and calculate equations associated with the water system.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner at all times while conducting City business.
- Ability to work alone and with other people to accomplish projects properly.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions, technical bulletins, and drawings.
