Utility Superintendent

**Summary of Job**:
The City of Verona is recruiting for a Utility Superintendent The Utility Superintendent is a highly skilled resource supervisor and is responsible for providing organization and supervisory direction in a diversified public works environment. Specific areas of focus include day to day supervision, administrative work in planning, operating, and maintaining the facilities and equipment of the water supply, water distribution, sanitary sewer collection, and stormwater drainage systems. The Utility Superintendent complements the Street Superintendent, working together to prioritize, schedule, and oversee maintenance activities throughout the City’s infrastructure system.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Essential Job Functions**:The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.

Water Utility Elements
- Determines, directs and assists in work assignments for the following:
a.) Well meter reading and record-keeping, addition of chemicals (chlorine and fluoride) record keeping, and testing for residual levels of chemicals.
b.) Maintenance of pumping equipment, chemical feed equipment, and well houses.
c.) Gathering and maintaining daily static and pumping level records for each well.
d.) Completion of all required water sampling per DNR requirements and submits required reports to the DNR.
- Works with the Public Works Director on the need for outside maintenance on well equipment and related components, well houses, reservoirs, booster stations, and water towers and schedules work
- Maintains Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA).
- Assigns and assists employees in necessary repairs of water main breaks.
- Continually evaluates, initiates changes, coordinates, and monitors hydrant flushing, hydrant painting, and valve exercising program and directs necessary repairs and maintenance. Maintains records of hydrant flushing, fire flow tests, painting, valve exercising, and repairs.
- Supervises, assists in, and schedules repair and installation of water meters and meter reading equipment, meter testing and repairs, installation, and maintains records of all meters tested and installed as required by Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
- Performs cross connection reporting.
- Provides information on Water Utility system for the annual Wisconsin Public Service Commission report. Assists with report preparation as necessary.

Sanitary Sewer Utility Elements
- Directs and assists in the maintenance of sewer mains (televising and lining), lift stations and schedules sewer maintenance program.
- Continually evaluates, initiates changes, coordinates, and monitors sewer cleaning program and directs necessary inspections, repairs and maintenance of collection systems.
- Develop and maintain a grease trap inspection program.
- Directs and assists in structure inspection, maintenance, and repair work.
- Prepares the annual reports for the sewer utility including but not limited to; CMAR (Compliance Maintenance Annual Report) and CMOM (Capacity, Management, Operations, and Maintenance) to DNR.

Storm Water Utility Elements
- Directs and assists in the maintenance of storm sewer pipes, structures, lift stations, drainage ways, detention and retention facilities and schedules maintenance program. Maintains all pertinent records.
- Supervises periodic inspections of private storm water management infrastructures. Maintains records of such activities.

General Utility Elements
- Orders and maintains inventory of all materials related to the utilities.
- Provides information and /or assists with budget preparation (capital and operations) for all improvement and/or maintenance needs.
- Reviews and discusses any problems concerning utility plans and specifications with the Assistant Director of Public Works.
- Directs and implements emergency response procedures.
- Ensures continuous reliability and normal level of service for utility systems.
- Maintains records of all maintenance activates.
- Directs and assists with locating city owned utilities requests from Diggers Hotline.
