DEFINITION

This position serves as a full-time dispatcher for the City of New Haven Police Department. The dispatcher will perform a full range of call taking of emergency and non-emergency telephone calls and dispatching police, fire and EMS.

**CLASS CHARACTERISTICS**

The full-time dispatcher should have the ability to stay calm under high pressure situations and have a willingness to help others including the public, police, fire and EMS personnel and other city departments. Understand the work schedule including working weekends, holidays and unexpected overtime.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

Answer all incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls for service and make proper entry into the CAD system.

Dispatch appropriate Police, Fire, EMS or any other agency that is required for assistance.

Monitors radio and other communication devices to receive radio traffic and keep proper documentation and records.

Answer calls for City Utilities on evenings, weekends and holidays then notify the on-call personnel when necessary.

Operates IDACS/NCIC, Spillman systems to assist officers with registration, driving records, wanted persons, stolen property and others as needed.

Enters and cancel records into the system such as: guns, vehicles, license plates and any other item that meets requirements to be entered.

Acquire and maintain all required training essentials.

Greet/Assist the public at the walk-up window in the New Haven Police Department lobby.

Process VIN paperwork and receive the money right out proper receipts, process lost license plates paperwork with a report number assigned.

Have a working knowledge of the boundaries for Police, Fire and EMS and the proper response for calls for service.

Other duties as required/requested.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Must maintain IDACS/NCIC certified.

Must possess effective communication skills.

Must maintain CPR/TELEPHONE CPR certified.

Must be able to multi-task.

Be willing to work solo after being trained.

Must have computer/typing skills.

Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

Must have dependable transportation.

Must have a high school diploma.

Must pass a background check.

Pay: $47,772.47 - $53,407.87 per year
