Office of the President
Role Mission:
The Vice President of Growth spearheads IDEA Public Schools' expansion strategy, overseeing a rigorous process for growing in existing IDEA regions and exploring new markets. They research potential opportunities, engage stakeholders, and secure backing for expansion efforts. This role entails leading a cross-functional coalition of executives (including the Executive Office, Operations, Advancement, Finance, Human Assets, and Research and Analytics) to design and manage the expansion process, allocating resources efficiently, ensuring accountability, mitigating risks, and maintaining transparency.
The VP collaborates with internal and external partners, conducting due diligence at every stage, leveraging data-driven analytics to inform decision-making, fostering community engagement, and cultivating philanthropic support. Crucially, they ensure the long-term financial sustainability of all expansion initiatives. The position demands strategic foresight, analytical acumen, risk management skills, people leadership, relationship-building prowess, and a deep understanding of the education and business landscapes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The VP of Growth will spearhead and coordinate cross-functional teams comprising executives, analysts, and stakeholders to drive the successful execution of the 2035 Plan for organizational growth and achieve overarching objectives, despite not having direct reporting lines.
- As organizational growth accelerates and new launches ramp up, the role is expected to oversee an increasing number of direct reports, such as analysts or project managers, as well as increasing responsibilities related to medium

What You’ll Do - Accountabilities
Essential Duties:
- Create IDEA’s vision, strategy, and structure for network growth within existing regions and in potential new regions.
- Act as the key internal stakeholder for all growth initiatives.
- Represent IDEA with external stakeholders in potential expansion regions.
- Partner with the SVP of Research & Analytics and the Director of Financial Modeling to develop analytics, including financial models that inform growth-related decision, including those that prioritize financial sustainability identify the most suitable properties and promising new regions.
- Devise internal measures of “growth readiness” (e.g., risk tolerance, talent readiness, financial sustainability, and portfolio health) that will inform expansion-related decisions
- Design and manage expansion-related processes, tools, and standards that prioritize governance and mitigate high-risk areas.
- Establish strategic reporting to enable visibility, accountability, data-driven decision-making, and to facilitate cross-functional collaboration while instilling robust quality controls.
- Oversee the effective execution of expansion projects, ensuring value delivery to new regions is efficient, compliant with laws and organizational policies, and adheres to defined constraints regarding time, scope, and budget.
- Secure charter approval by building community engaging and building strong, impactful relationships with external partners and local champions.
- Partner with the Vice President of Advancement to ensure there is grant funding and sufficient philanthropic donations to support expenses (rather than basic programmatic needs)
- Upon obtaining new region authorization (i.e., a new charter), partner with the region’s Executive Director to facilitate a seamless transition, including transferring community, philanthropic, and legislative relationships, building a regional Board of Directors, ensuring key milestones are met for a successful launch year, and providing support throughout the first operational year.
What You Bring - Competencies
Required Experience and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred
- At least 10 years of professional experience
- At least 5 years of proven large-scale, cross-functional project management and organizational change management in a high-pressure environment
- At least 5 years of budget (P&L) management experience
- Expert business operations experience (service development, fiscal responsibility management, staff utilization)
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge and experience in the charter management and education reform space, especially with large CMO networks (20+ schools).
- Proven expertise in spearheading organizational transformation, coupled with a strong acumen in budget management, cost analysis, profitability assessment, strategic procurement, and talent development.
