**SUMMARY**:Bright Prospect is a year-round college access and success non-profit program in Pomona, California. Bright Prospect empowers high-potential, low-income students to gain admission, succeed, and graduate from four-year colleges and universities by providing comprehensive support throughout their high school and college years. Student programming begins in the summer after 8 grade year and concludes upon their graduation from college with a Bachelor’s degree.

Bright Prospect college students attend various colleges and universities, including community colleges, four-year public California universities, and selective not-for-profit colleges and universities nationwide.

Bright Prospect program staff is organized into year-specific teams: high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, as well as a college team.

The **College Access Coach** reports to the Chief Program Officer and will develop and execute programming to support high school-aged students' successful persistence and graduation. Primary functions include, but are not limited to:
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS**
- Fostering a warm, welcoming, and positive environment for all stakeholders, including staff, students, parents/guardians, and community partners. Able to develop professional relationships with students, district personnel, colleagues, and others.
- Being results-driven and addressing programmatic challenges to the Chief Program Officer.
- Understand the importance of student engagement and student success and how that contributes to Bright Prospect’s success.
- Developing and executing college access and social-emotional programs for all schools as assigned
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends in college access, college success, and student development, and regularly keeping the team informed.
- Ensuring that assigned deadlines meet all program objectives
- Contributing ideas to help advance the mission and the goals of the organization
- Implementing and promoting recruitment campaigns in the Bright Prospect College Access and Success program

**FUNCTIONING**
- Representing the organization to school personnel, professional organizations, educators, funders, volunteers, the public, and students
- Supporting program needs in other organizational areas as needed
- Understanding high school to college matriculation processes including, but not limited to, academic programs, admission policies, standardized testing, and financial aid policies and procedures
- Staying informed about ongoing changes in the field of college access and success
- Adhering to mentor/student boundaries as outlined in the Bright Prospect Employee Handbook

**PLANNING, ORGANIZING, AND EXECUTING**
- Implement successful college success programming for 300+ students across different high schools from predominantly low-income, underserved, and first-generation backgrounds.
- Deliver workshops, training, discussion sessions, and various cross-team activities and events with assigned age groups of students.
- Periodically attend training, workshops, and conferences for professional and programmatic development.
- Document and manage accurate student data, which includes tracking participation, evaluating academic performance, and meeting one-on-one with struggling students to provide coaching and guidance as needed.

**SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Manage a caseload of students from age groups assigned by Bright Prospect.
- Motivate, support, and inspire students to persevere toward short-term and long-term goals.
- Provide guidance and feedback on academic progress, including but not limited to academic course selection and essay writing.
- Build and develop a professional, supportive relationship with students to foster trust, positive guidance, academic and social-emotional support, and problem-solving.
- Keep leadership informed of student challenges, including but not limited to mental health challenges, food insecurity/homelessness, and overall safety and wellness.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited institution
- Bilingual (Spanish/English), strongly preferred
- Strong passion for issues of educational equity for students from underserved communities
- Deep understanding of the challenges faced by first-generation students and underrepresented communities. Experience working directly with these student groups is strongly desired.
- Ability to create and deliver presentations in small and large group settings.
