**GENERAL**:The person selected for this position will be responsible for the general supervision and management of class of up to 8 children between the ages 6wks to 35 months. The classroom lead teacher will be responsible for supervising one person: a classroom aide.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, especially in the field of early childhood education or development and be able to meet the requirements of all licensing and accreditation agencies. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults and shows the ability to be patient and interact in an appropriate manner in both word and deed.

**Responsibilities**:

- Planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of MLLELC and with the Licensing Standards as imposed by the Department of Children and Family Services while meeting the ITERS requirements in order to obtain the center’s ExceleRate requirements.
- Gearing the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
- Preparing lesson plans that each lesson plan will be directly related to the specific needs of the children in the class as documented in their developmental milestone forms and is aligned with teaching strategies.
- Considering individual children in relationship to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
- Treating children with dignity and respect.
- Distributing daily meals in accordance with the ISBE Food Program.
- Being responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom.
- Assuming an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff.
- Attending all mandatory staff meetings and participating in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth to meet the required number of training hours per year (20 hours each year).
- Implementing methods for effectively utilizing the services of classroom assistants.
- Planning and implementing methods of establishing a positive liaison with the parents of the students.
- Participating in parent conferences with Administrators, if necessary, on children's school adjustment and classroom behavior.
- Assisting in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children.
- Conducting parent conferences and preparing and reviewing progress reports with each child’s parent.
- Preparing a daily classroom schedule and submitting the same to the Director for approval and posting the same in the classroom.
- Ensuring that the staff in this room performs their duties in a timely manner.
- Making appropriate referrals for developmental, hearing and vision screenings of children who exhibit possible delays.
- Collaborating with Family Support Specialist and other community collaborators to ensure the best services possible for children and their families.
- Patience, flexibility and love for children
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Certificate in first aid and CPR (preferred but not required)
- Degree in early childhood education or CDA certificate
- Any other duties as assigned by the Director
- Must follow all DCFS requirements*

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
