The Section of Cardiology was founded in 1950 and has a proud history. We are now charting a new course that will propel us to the forefront of cardiovascular medicine. The strength of the Section reflects the quality and dedication of its faculty, trainees and support staff and is enhanced by the rich environment at the University of Chicago.
Job Summary
The Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiology is looking for a Staff Scientist to work on: Cardiovascular research, with a focus on cell biology and signal transduction.
**Responsibilities**:
- Conducting research experiments, specifically in the area of cellular cardiac electrophysiology. Specifically, he or she will be helping design and perform experiments to assess ion channels and calcium signaling in cardiac myocytes and cardiac neuronal cells. He or she will also be engaged in performing experiments in cell biology, signal transduction and protein chemistry etc.- One of his or her principal tasks will be to help set up a patch clamp setup for the Dr. Arora lab.- Assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in designing new experiments.- Harvesting, analyzing, and interpreting data; drafting manuscripts.- Presenting data at research conferences.- Maintaining experimental databases, including animal and cell culture records.- Designs, develops and tests experimental protocols for research (including empirical protocols, computational, statistical methods, etc.).- Collaborates with other researchers as appropriate.-
- Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.- Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.- Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
**Education**:
Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.
- Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

- Education:- Doctoral degree in biological sciences or related field.- Experience:- Experience in developing and implementing empirical protocols.
- Experience with assisting in the training, a strong publication record, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research.- Preferred Competencies-
