**Position Summary**

The Assistant Middle School Division Head is a 12-month employee who reports to and works in partnership with the Middle School Division Head. The Middle School Campus consists of approximately 535 students in grades 6-8 and 70 faculty. The Assistant Division Head leads by example to promote Harker’s pillars of kindness, respect, integrity, and personal accountability. They do this through active participation and oversight of non-academic student programming opportunities and experiences including but not limited to Advisory, Behavior Management, Middle School Trips, Clubs, Emergency Preparation, and Before and After School Enrichment.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree (Advanced Degree Preferred)
- Five years of successful middle school teaching and/or leadership experience
- Familiar with and educated about Restorative Justice practices.
- Practiced and skilled Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Belonging practitioner.
- Practiced and skilled Social, Emotional Learning practitioner
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Deep appreciation for early adolescents and their potential
- Creative, joyful approach to teaching and learning
- Detail-oriented and thorough with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent multi-tasking ability; able to work with multiple and changing priorities.
- Sense of humor; flexibility
- High level of integrity and confidentiality

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

**Advisory System**
- Oversees, maintains, and communicates advisory curriculum.
- Oversees and meets bimonthly with class deans to support clear communication and consistency of the social, and emotional learning experiences in advisory.

**Behavior Management**
- Organizes and maintains student guidance/behavior information/records.
- Communicates when needed with other divisions to support the students through TK-12
- Supervises student behavior in school and at school activities.
- Develops and administers school policies/guidelines regarding student conduct.
- Manages the Middle School behavior management system and communicates with families regarding disciplinary action.

**Middle School Trips**
- Oversees and coordinates the three-grade level middle school trips, coordinating with the educational travel group, Academic Expeditions, for registration, travel, accommodations, and itinerary.
- Works closely with, and in support of, the Middle School Division Head to create week-long excursions that bring learning beyond the classroom that further strengthen and support the social and emotional learning of the students as well as making deeply impactful connections between students and chaperones.
- Assigns Faculty Duties and responsibilities on the trip.
- Coordinates and assigns roommates (cabin/hotel room), transportation, and chaperone group.

**Student Life and Activities**
- Counsel students, faculty, and parents/guardians, as appropriate, to support student needs.
- Plans and coordinates school assemblies with a particular focus on the windows and mirrors experience to work towards a deep understanding of inclusion and belonging in the community.
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees social events (dances, socials, movie nights) that occur throughout the year.
- Oversees and supervises the election of the middle school leadership council and their service in planning events and activities for the students. These include but are not limited to school meetings, dances, socials, and fundraisers.
- Oversees the leadership student groups (Belonging Board, LIFE Board, Spirit Council) that are advised by other faculty members.
- Oversees and coordinates the club programming offerings and budget responsibilities.
- Oversees and supports the logistics for the Middle School Mentor activities.
- Oversees the MS / US tutoring program.
- Oversees and supervises the 7th grade Honor Escorts selected to attend the Upper School Graduation
- Meets twice a week with the counseling team and division head to support students and discuss the pulse of the division.
- Represents the Middle School at admissions events and participates in the admissions process.
- Oversees and manages, with the Division Head, uniform guidelines and dress code
- Supports Sustainability/Green Team efforts at the middle school.

**Community Events and Experiences**
- Maintain the schedule for community activities.
- Develop & communicate special schedules for events.
- Work with the admin assistants and Division Head to maintain the overall Middle School calendar of events.
- Maintain and communicate a clear weekly calendar for both the students and faculty to ensure clear communication and expectations.
- Attend Middle School plays, concerts, and when possible, sporting events and other student events.
