The Measurement Science Group at RTX Technology Research Center (RTRC) in East Hartford, CT has an open position for a research technician to work in our Materials Characterization laboratories. The position is part of a team integral to many of the research projects at RTRC and supports products from the various business units of RTX. You will be part of a team responsible for evaluating the physical and mechanical properties of materials and components throughout the product lifecycle. The work involves significant hands-on activity supporting the development of advanced materials and technologies through preparation of samples for characterization and testing.

**What You Will Do**:
Metallographic preparation

Precision specimen sectioning

Sample mounting and polishing techniques

Chemical handling and etching

Optical microscopy methods

Basic computer documentation/reporting

**Qualifications You Must Have**:

- Minimum 5 years direct hands-on experience with metallography and specimen preparation including aerospace alloys/materials
- Familiarity with common metallographic techniques and consumables
- Familiarity with proper chemical handling and etching procedures
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to learn quickly and strive for continuous improvement
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently with limited direction
- AA/AS degree, Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school training (two years duration), minimum experience of 6 years in a related field, e.g. materials characterization, manufacturing, quality/inspection, or precision machining
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access the financial management system due to government contractual requirements

**Qualifications we Prefer**:

- Experience with optical microscopy, quality inspection, and data documentation for incorporation into reports
- Self-starter with willingness to support strategic priorities and take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives.
- Bachelor's Degree
