**DESCRIPTION**:
A unit within the portfolio of the Vice Chancellor-Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, the LGBT Resource Center at UC San Diego is a diverse, open and public space for all members of the university community to explore issues relating to sexual and gender identities, practices, and politics. The Center develops student leadership, enhances sense of belonging, promotes academic research, and provides resources. The Center challenges existing definitions of variant genders and sexualities by engaging in community building on campus. This Center sustains and develops visibility, sense of community, and knowledge of diverse queer people. The vision of the LGBT Resource Center is to be an essential part of creating community at UC San Diego. We reflect the diversities of our communities; engage across differences; connect, retain and sustain students; work collaboratively with staff and faculty; and advance community solidarity. As an LGBT Resource Center Community we value family, community, respect, and social justice. We aspire to live these values and engage gently with each other as we do.

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Equity and Inclusion (AVC-SEI) and in support of the University’s mission with respect to diversity and inclusion as well as the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center’s mission, the Director takes a leadership role in building community and creating a dynamic and diverse student, staff, and faculty experience within the University of California.

The Director leads innovative efforts to provide an integrated approach to identifying, implementing and evaluating programs and practices directed toward addressing/impacting LGBT cultural and other diversity-related issues on the campus and in the community. The Director provides creative leadership, strategic planning, and vision regarding the role the LGBT Resource Center plays in support of the the campuses strategic plan and plan for inclusive excellence.

The incumbent oversees the Center’s operations, including budget development and human resources management; development and implementation of outreach programs, and development of training opportunities that incorporate understanding of student development and leadership principles in the day-to-day operation of the Center.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Operational management background required. Demonstrated extensive work experience in the development, interpretation and recommendation of complex protocols and guidelines. Demonstrated outstanding ability to design, adapt, implement, and evaluate new protocols, guidelines, and reports. Ability to think through the consequences of a decision prior to making it. Ability to accept uncertainty and deal with ambiguity by recommending or taking actions when answers to problems are not readily apparent. Demonstrated professional skills in instructional design, development and delivery, and outstanding presentation skills.

- Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and/or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees. Demonstrated strong knowledge of human resource management concepts and practices, performance management models and practices, and career development practices. Knowledge of the concepts of business and financial management principles. Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret financial information and to identify necessary action plan.
- Advanced interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact tactfully and diplomatically, yet assertively, with all segments of the campus and community; skill in resolving conflict situations and in recognizing politically sensitive situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group settings, using appropriate vocabulary, taking into account differences in social, cultural, professional, and educational backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in creating a climate of trust and respect and in aligning strategic initiatives and operational goals with the mission
