This position is expected to provide guidance, mentoring, direction, and leadership within their team and throughout the agency while supporting a substantial case load as a Paralegal defined by the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar (RRTFB) as “a person with education, training, or work experience, who works under the direction and supervision of an employing or supervising lawyer and who performs specifically delegated substantive legal work for which an employing or supervising lawyer is responsible.” The Managing Paralegal may, at the attorney’s discretion, take primary responsibility for some case files and should be capable of acting with substantial degrees of independence and responsibility. This individual is responsible for managing service quality of all paralegals within the firm. They possess exceptional leadership and problem-solving skills. This position is expected to deliver superior performance at a high capacity with a client-centered approach to services within a cross-functional, multi-site, collaborative firm.

**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Serves as a manager, trainer, mentor, and resource for all paralegals within the firm.

2. Directly supervises Client Service Specialists, students, and volunteers, as assigned.

3. Assist in the development, coordination, and presentation of paralegal best practices internally and externally, as assigned.

4. Stays abreast of paralegal best practices, providing updates to all paralegals, and makes recommendations to senior leadership, as needed.

5. To be knowledgeable and abide by the rules and regulations promulgated by the Florida Bar relative to the unauthorized practice of law and the functions which non-lawyer personnel may perform in a law office.

6. Interviews clients in the office and at outreach sites and elsewhere, if necessary, to gather information, facts, witness, and other relevant data.

7. Schedules client appointments as needed, checks for possible client conflicts; conducts legal research and enters client data into case management system as needed.

8. Under attorney supervision, prepares witnesses and evidence for negotiation and hearings as well as drafting of pleadings.

9. Under attorney supervision, drafts letters, memoranda, pleadings, briefs, and other documents as needed on a case.

10. Where ethically permissible and authorized by the client, represents clients at administrative hearings, exercising primary responsibility for case files of such clients, under the supervision of an attorney

11. Actively engage in trainings, community outreach events, and meetings concerning paralegal services as assigned.

12. Provides updates to Chief Advocacy Officer on needs of Paralegals and Client Service Specialists; represents unit in leadership team meetings as requested.

13. Performs other duties as discussed with and assigned by Deputy Directors and/or Executive Leadership.

14. Ensures contract deliverables are met (where applicable), and timely completion of funder reporting, as assigned.

15. Performs other duties as assigned by GLS.

4. Demonstrated understanding of the societal and cultural factors impacting the law and a commitment toward compassionate and trauma-informed representation with an eye toward respecting the dignity of our clients and communities served.

5. Satisfactory completion of duties and responsibilities of the position as required by management and supervisors.

6. Performs related work as required and fills in for positions above and below in staffing shortages.

1. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, required.

2. Ability to deal professionally, courteously, and efficiently with people.

3. Demonstrated experience with and commitment to working with low-income communities.

4. Ability to plan, direct and coordinate activities; work with government agencies, community groups and other organizations as necessary; communicate effectively in both written and oral forms; exhibit independent judgment in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures, and policies.

5. Demonstrated solution-based leadership skills.

6. Ability to work on various projects while balancing different priorities.

7. Ability to work overtime and non-business hours as required to complete assignments and/or meet client needs.

8. Ability to maintain client confidentiality.

9. Ability to travel throughout our service areas, as needed.
