**JOB DESCRIPTION**:

- The Providence Public School District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) attending our 37 schools. PPSD employs more than 3,200 professionals who work in and provide support to our schools, which include 20 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 2 public district charter schools. Of our employees, about 2,000 are educators, and over 600 others directly support our schools' students and families.Our schools are diverse learning communities. Approximately 68% of our students are Latinx, 15% Black, 7% White, 4% Asian, 5.5% Multi-racial and 1% Native American. Approximately 40% of students are multilingual, and about 16% receive special education services. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Our students and families speak more than 55 languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.Under the direction of the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, The Supervisor of Advanced Academics is responsible for providing leadership and support for district-wide initiative of expanding and further developing the role, structure and provide equity in student success in advanced academic courses and will be responsible for full implementation of these programs as outlined in the responsibilities described below. The Director of Advanced Academics will work collaboratively with district staff to design, guide and supervise academically advanced services which ensure rigor, depth, complexity and challenge for the district’s advanced and gifted learners. The Director will also ensure all district students increased access to challenging courses, which enhance and broaden opportunities for greater future education and career options. The Director of Advanced Academics will facilitate improvements in instructional practices based on best practices throughout the total teaching and learning curriculum.The Director of Advanced Academics will lead the vision and work for district-wide adherence to and implementation of TAP and MTSS Policy. The Director of Advanced Academics works closely with the Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction.**Contingent upon funding**

**EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**:

- Rhode Island District Level Administrator Certificate - Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and Building Level Administrator **and** the following**:
- Content Certification-
- ESL Preferred-
- Bilingual or Multilingual Preferred-
- Right to Read Awareness or Proficiency Certificate within two years of hire-
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in the areas of curriculum and instruction and/or administration/educational leadership;-
- 5 years outstanding teaching or related experience in working with advanced courses.-
- Previous work with gifted or advanced academics preferred.-
- Administrative or supervisory experience is desirable.**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES**:
- Manages programs, including summer and after school, related to Advanced Academics, with an emphasis on the integration of strategies to help students reach higher levels of proficiency and supported by strong parent and community engagement activities that enrich school wide plans.-
- Believes that all students can learn at high levels.-
- Meet regularly with library department and teacher leaders to ensure vertical and horizontal articulation of curriculum and instructional vision.-
- Promotes incorporation and practice of academic skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking through Advanced Academics to support student success in advanced courses and post-secondary preparation.-
- Collects and analyzes data to improve products and services delivered to schools to support student achievement in advanced academics and courses;-
- Oversees, supports, and evaluates secondary Library Media Specialist to support school programming emphasizing supporting educators with the integration of research practices.-
- Develop plans for and implement a multi-tiered professional learning program to ensure district teachers achieve a level of proficiency in or awareness of the knowledge and practices that support student success in advanced academics and courses.-
- In coordination with the Executive Director for Professional learning, provides professional development, training and general oversight of the work of teachings in Advanced Academics program, AP or concurrent enrollment courses and supports secondary library media specialists to support school programming.-
- Coordinate the design, support and implementation of quality professional development programs in Advanced Academics for principals, coaches, teachers, and support staff consistent with district, state required and national standards for professional development;-
