Custody Officers work 12-hour shifts.

**RETIREMENT**:

**Experience & Education and License/Certificate**:

- A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

- **Experience**: One year of experience requiring constant and responsible public contact, preferably in a law enforcement or correctional facility setting.
- **Education**: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. College level coursework in criminal justice or related field is highly desirable.
- **License(s)**:Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

**Certificate(s)**:

- Completion of or ability to complete within 90 days of hire, P.C. 832 Powers of Arrest course.

Completion of BSCC Standards and Training for Corrections Core course (Jailer Academy) within 12 months of hire.
- **Disaster Service Worker**:In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, City of Newport Beach Employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to respond accordingly.
