Job Summary

The City of Long Beach, CA is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Police Officer Trainee. As a Police Officer Trainee, you will be responsible for developing the skills and knowledge necessary to become a sworn police officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend the Long Beach Police Academy and receive instruction in police department policies and procedures, weaponless defense, criminal and civil law, physical fitness techniques, use of firearms, arrest procedures, community relations, and operation of emergency vehicles.
  • Observe sworn police personnel in the processing of arrestees, including booking, fingerprinting, custody, and control.
  • Perform non-sworn police support functions, such as traffic and crowd control, as directed during the training process.
Requirements
  • Current enrollment in a California POST Certified full-time Basic Academy.
  • Proof of a Passing PELLETB or NTN Frontline Score.
  • U.S. high school graduation or G.E.D. equivalency.
  • Twenty-one years of age or older.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Have vision correctable to 20/20.
  • Have no physical or mental limitations that might prevent the completion of any duty assignment.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Recent college coursework in a related field.
  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or English/Southeast Asian languages.
Selection Procedure

The selection procedure will be conducted using a continuous, non-competitive process. Applications are evaluated based on training, experience, education, certificates, and/or licenses. There is no examination. This is a continuous eligible list, which will expire in six months, but may be extended.
