The Alliance for Quality Education (AQE) is New York State’s leading community-based organization in the fight for high quality public education. In New York City, AQE plays a leading role in organizing communities and building coalitions to push for key successful reforms, aimed at supporting students and teachers, and engaging parents and communities as partners in educational justice. We are seeking a highly motivated organizer in New York City whose focus will be to organize parents in order to demand racial and economic justice in education.
- Build and run a monthly citywide parent advocacy group fighting for quality education, integrating with the AQE Community Team and Ed Warrior alumnus. As part of this goal:

- Foster and maintain relationships with parents through 1:1 meetings and phone calls
- Mobilize and train parents and community members to participate in a wide variety of activities, including grassroots lobbying, press conferences, rallies and demonstrations, meetings and leadership trainings;
- Organize and/or work with other organizations to include chapter members participation in a variety of actions, including rallies, legislative days, legislative testimony, etc.;
- Conduct outreach to parent and youth groups, community organizations, clergy, advocacy groups and other organizations; through phone calls, in person 1:1, school visits, social media etc
- Support the Programs and Training Associate with the Early Ed and Ed Warriors 8 month week training programs for parents
- Work hand in hand with NYC campaign strategist to drive NYC priority campaigns;
- Engage public officials around the coalition’s policy agenda and organizing strategy determined by consensus of organized constituencies, as necessary;
- Support statewide campaigns by organizing AQE parents around campaign tactics;

**Job Qualifications**
- Organizing or related experience of at least 2 years
- Strong commitment to social justice
- Familiarity with the political structure of New York
- Experience working in racially, economically and linguistically diverse communities
- Ability to understand and communicate complex policy issues to the general public
- Strong writing skills, strong verbal and interpersonal communications skills
- Ability to thrive in high paced, stimulating campaign environment
- Work as a team player
- Capacity to coordinate multiple tasks and activities successfully
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter who is committed to making a difference and to the success of the project.
- Multilingualism a plus

**Other duties and expectations include**:

- Take part in weekly staff meetings via conference calls.
- Meet with the supervisor and support consultant regularly to discuss progress, tactics, and concerns. Complete required reporting form and schedules.
- Attend events and actions
- Work some evenings, particularly for parent meetings, and some weekends.
- Travel as necessary (position will be based in NYC, with trips to Albany). Travel expenses will be covered.

**Salary range**: $62,400- 68,000 - depending on experience
