**About JMU**:
Located in the heart of Virginia’s beautiful Shenandoah Valley, the city of Harrisonburg is approximately 120 miles from Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA. With a population of just over 53,000, Harrisonburg is one of the most diverse communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. JMU is a selective, public institution with a growing national reputation for offering experiences that lead to an outstanding education and inclusive environment for students, faculty and staff. The student body includes approximately 20,000 undergraduate and 1,900 graduate students, with over 1,000 full-time instructional faculty.
**General Information**:
Student Engagement Specialists must be good listeners, team-oriented, have a great phone voice clarity, and be comfortable speaking over the phone and/or Zoom with a variety of people. They must be passionate about JMU and eager to make a positive impact.
Student Engagement Specialists are expected to work three shifts per week, totaling approximately 9.75 hours, between the hours of 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Monday through Thursday (with one shift required on Sunday). Work will take place in both the Leeolou Alumni Center and Sonner Hall. This position begins when regular classes resume in September 2024, with the possibility of working through the Spring 2025 semester.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Initiate contact and schedule virtual meetings with JMU’s alumni, parents, and donors.
- Foster connections by highlighting shared experiences and interests at JMU.
- Gather and update contact information.
- Respect the confidentiality of donor records by not sharing information outside the workplace.
- Maintain the overall voice of JMU while upholding its integrity and mission.
- Film donor stewardship videos using the ThankView platform, as needed.
**Qualifications**:
- Enrolled as a JMU student.
- Comfortable using a script to schedule calls with donors, alumni, and parents of JMU.
- Able to attend trainings throughout semesters.
- Familiar with James Madison University or strong willingness to learn about the institution.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Works well as a team member
**Conditions of Employment**:
Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
