Vice President of Curriculum & Instruction

Role Mission

The mission of the VP of Curriculum & Instruction is to define the academic program model, manage the development of curriculum and assessments, evaluate the impact of those materials, and lead content support services with the goal of preparing IDEA students for success to and through college. Working in a highly distributed charter environment with frequent strategic planning across teams, the VP of Curriculum & Instruction will create a comprehensive, user-friendly, engaging and aligned approach to academic programming, curriculum, assessments, and a teacher support system to achieve the IDEA organizational goals for student achievement in grades K - 12, across all academic and CTE programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Effectively coach and directly manage a team of at 7 Directors/Managing Directors to achieve annual goals
- Effectively communicate and lead a team of more than 60 staff across 8 departments around a common vision for the current year, and create 3-5 year plans
- Plan and manage the C&I Team operating budget and district Enterprise budget

Location

This is a full-time, 80% remote, position based in a Texas region with IDEA schools: Austin, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and Tarrant County, or who are willing to relocate.

Travel Expectation

Weekly in-field observations, travel to regions outside of home region is required up to three times per month; commercial air travel may be required

What You’ll Do

Define core academic program model for grade levels K-12 across the network (all states), so that leaders can articulate program rationale and strategically plan for student success
- Create and communicate exemplar rationale for Kindergarten through grade 12 program design and course sequence, including specialty programs, such as Advanced Placement, Career and Technical Education, and core electives like Spanish
- Create and communicate core operating structures for implementing the academic model, including district assessment structure, curriculum development and publishing timelines, master schedule guidance and requirements, and strategic initiative development
- Develop and revise all state policies related to academic programming, instructional materials, graduation requirements, class rankings, and grading

Recruit, train, manage and retain team of high-performing program Directors and Curriculum Managers in grades K-12 to achieve 85% A-Player team retention of the CIA Team
- Monitor progress toward goals with quality check-ins, strategy meetings and quarterly meetings so that all goals are achieved by end of the year
- Create individualized development plans for C&I Directors to improve performance and leadership
- Support Curriculum Directors to recruit, develop and retain high-quality Curriculum Managers
- Develop team-wide training programs providing continuous learning opportunities for all members of the C&I team

Lead a high performing curriculum team to design, create and distribute impactful curriculum products and assessments and collaborate on professional development for all schools, in all states
- Develop the multi-year strategy for the comprehensive curriculum development across all states and all core academics and CTE courses
- Communicate the curriculum development approach to all stakeholders across the organization and monitor the implementation of the curriculum development plan
- Manage team to design and post high quality curriculum materials so that all materials are posted by bundle drop deadlines
- Manage team to design and facilitate high quality professional development that leads to effective program, assessment, and curriculum implementation

Work within the Academic Services Team and collaborate with the Schools team to develop and implement a seamless experience between curriculum, coaching, and compliance for teachers so that all schools meet accountability at the end of the school year and the district receives an “A” rating
- Work with AST members and Talent Development team members to create a robust teacher training, including the onboarding program during Beginning of the Year training, ongoing professional development, and ad-hoc training as needed by individual regions
- Partner with AST members and Talent Development team members to create and facilitate robust campus and regional leader training across all content areas and all academic programs
- Regularly visit schools to observe classroom instruction and curriculum implementation, partnering with campus and regional leaders to ensure high quality program implementation and evaluate for adequate supports for all schools

Analyze student achievement results, identify trends and communicate course corrections to support improvement to meet student achievement goals
