**Job Summary**:
The Government Relations Director plans, develops and directs all aspects of Maricopa Community Colleges government relations operations, concerning all federal and state legislative matters, budgets and rules provisions and rules that affect the Maricopa Community College District. Represents the District at the Sate Legislature, with the Governor’s Office, which Arizona’s Congressional delegation, before State and Federal agencies, and with local government elected and administrative officials.

**Essential Functions**:
30% - Plan, develop and direct all activities involving government relations; negotiate with state/local elected officials and staff to obtain additional funding, reform community college education and/or preserve and protect Maricopa Community College programs; develop, review, analyze; provide management and guidance to the Public Affairs Committee.
25% - Analyze complex political and legislative issues and develop appropriate strategies, solutions and recommendations; prepares complex narrative, statistical reports for state elected officials and organizations; develop and prepare reports of law affecting programs at Maricopa Community Colleges and District Office
15% - Develop, identify, analyze, compile, and monitor proposed and recently passed state legislation and determines potential impact on Maricopa Community Colleges; draft bills and amendments for introduction in the State Legislature.
15% - Represent Maricopa Community Colleges as an authorized spokesperson both on an individual basis and with a variety of elected bodies and legislative committees.
15% - Develop and maintain network for constituencies, including the Governor, legislators, local elected officials, and their respective staff, Governing Board members, and District management on political and legislative issues.

**Minimum Qualifications**:
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in public administration, political science, communications or related field and seven (7) years of professional level experience planning, administering and overseeing governmental relations, political advocacy, or community relations programs and operational activities.
