The UC Santa Barbara Office of Development blends the strengths of both a centralized and a decentralized operation. Although all development officers report to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development or his/her designee, some are dedicated to specific schools and units, working hand-in-hand with Deans, Directors and faculty to secure private support. Additional development officers focus on specific regions of the country and/or are dedicated to increasing involvement by alumni, parents and friends. A strong central core initiates programs, or provides guidance and expertise, in foundation relations, planned giving, capital projects, donor stewardship, The UCSB Foundation and other areas of specialization. An integrated tracking and coordination system ensures a collaborative and smooth working environment, all aimed at enhancing UC Santa Barbara's attractiveness to, and involvement with, the private sector.

**Brief Summary of Job Duties**:
This University Development Officer serves as Associate Director of Development ("Associate Director"), Digital Fundraising and is a member of the Central Annual Giving Team. Under the general direction of the Director of Development, Annual Giving Programs, works to optimize philanthropic support in response to university fundraising priorities established by the Office of Development. As a member of central development, fund raising efforts are devoted to a broad array of philanthropic initiatives, including interdisciplinary programs and other university initiatives, as appropriate.

**Required Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues, partners and the public.
- Ability to work independently, balance priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated track record of managing professional relationships in business, preferably in a development environment.
- Persuasive verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to relate to and communicate with a wide array of constituents.
- Exceptional organizational skills and judgment necessary to manage multiple priorities and long-term projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and donor/customer relationship databases in order to search for new possible donors to the University.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- 1-3 years of experience working within higher education annual giving or development.
- 1-3 years student call center experience
- 1-3 years proven ability to motivate, engage and work with students

**Special Conditions of Employment**:

- May be called upon to work occasional evenings and weekends at various Development Office, Institutional Advancement or campus-wide events.

**Job Functions and Percentages of Time**:

- ** 50% Fundraising** - Serves as a fundraiser for developing an expanding base of regular, ongoing support including both new and sustained contributors in the annual giving program. Promotes lifelong patterns of giving and establishes relationships between the university and its constituent family by providing an entry point for most new donors and cultivating increased giving from existing donors. Creates and sends central text messages, at the direction of the Director of Development, Annual Giving Programs that may support central or unit-based fundraising initiatives, as well as stewardship and engagement campaigns. Communicates with donors as responses to text messages are received. Handles stewardship and donor requests. Responsible for coordinating with development colleagues to share key communications received. Creates text segments. Manages and uploads highly segmented lists to software. Provides analytical reporting on overall performance of text campaigns. Communicates with Development Officers on qualitative and qualitative outcomes and makes recommendations on program.
