**DEFINITION**

Under supervision of a Violence Prevention Supervisor or a Public Health Supervisor in the Policy, Planning and Evaluation Division, this position provides coordination and supports strategic planning efforts for Public Health Madison and Dane County’s (PHMDC) violence intervention services.

**EXAMPLES OF DUTIES**

Serves as a lead worker for the Violence Intervention team and works to intervene in and mediate conflicts that have the potential to lead to violence, and provides supports to individuals who are at risk for involvement in violence, with a special focus on gun violence. Serves as a liaison between PHMDC and other partners in the community conducting violence intervention work, including: connecting directly with those who are at risk of or currently engaging in violence; developing and conducting assessments using appropriate intervention techniques; and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions. Responsible for building networks and relationships with individuals engaging in violence and with service agencies focused on: violence prevention and intervention services; capacity building; collaboration with community stakeholders across multiple sectors; consultation; program development and evaluation; information dissemination; and implementation of evidence-based prevention strategies. Supports violence intervention clients through evidence based methods to encourage violence avoidance.

Education, Experience & Special Requirements:

**Minimum Requirements**:A combination of education, training and/or experience (lived or employment-related) equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in public health, social science, psychology, evaluation, public policy, public administration, statistics, or related social science/research field. At least three (3) years of experience working directly with a population of those engaged with violent crimes and/or incarceration. Have an understanding of substance use, mental health, behavior change, economic assistance, and employment skill development service networks and service methods. Experience planning for intervention services. Experience working effectively with culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations. Experience conducting case management, outreach and engagement, and/or street outreach or public health planning.

**Preferred experience**: Experience working with and supporting violence intervention teams, initiatives and/or coalitions/community-based organizations, managing projects, and training in group facilitation and interviewing.

**Special Requirements**:
Requires a valid driver’s license, access to reliable personal transportation and a good driving record. Must be available to work On-call, early morning, late afternoon, evenings, holidays and weekends as needed, and during crises Normal work schedule will be determined based on coverage of shifts.
