Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by GBH and PRX. The show offers a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe. The World’s companion website, theworld.org, offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows, videos, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content. The World and theworld.org use social media and other relevant digital platforms and tools to maximize audience engagement and enhance the user experience.

JOB OVERVIEW

RESPONSIBILITIES- Work with GBH video and social team to produce high quality short videos to post on social media and also longer videos for digital stories and YouTube.- Write and edit social media posts that accompany audio and web stories.- Keep up to date on best practices in digital journalism and is comfortable informally teaching and guiding colleagues.- Work closely with digital team in audience engagement on social media posts.- Synthesize news from a variety of sources and write morning newsletter with voice and authority.- Monitor newsletter performance metrics in Campaign Monitor and be familiar with a variety of digital analytics tools, such as Chartbeat and Google Analytics.- Create photo galleries and stories from audio content.- Work closely with The World radio producers and reporters to identify and develop distinctive angles for digital and social content from audio stories.- Edit digital stories for content, organization and style before they’re published on TheWorld.org- Pitch stories on global issues along with guest suggestions.- Assist in producing and cutting interviews for radio.

SKILL SET- Understanding of CMS platforms and digital skills including Word Press.- Basic working knowledge of social media tools such as Canva, Adobe creative, photoshop and Sprout.- Experience creating or editing multimedia on a major content management system.- Understand audio/visual storytelling and identify approaches to translate radio-first stories for digital audiences creatively.- Strong news judgment.- Working knowledge of AP style.- Ability to collect data, establish facts and solve complex problems.- Experience working collaboratively in a newsroom to develop videos and see them through.- Ability to set and meet aggressive goals and to recognize successes and challenges associated with those goals.- Highly organized but flexible, with the ability to handle multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.- Ability to embrace strategic direction and goals and to consider company-wide impact when making decisions.- Have a demonstrated interest or experience in covering global news.- Strong track record in generating original and imaginative story ideas.- Possess editing skills and be familiar with the latest digital audio editing and multimedia tools.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
