**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**:

- Primarily serves veterans as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor.
- Works collaboratively with Service Coordinators and Case Managers to ensure that each veteran’s employment needs are met and properly integrated within other supportive services.
- Engage program participants directly to assess their employment needs, identify barriers to employment, discuss employment and vocational options, and set employment goals; work with participants to develop strategies for tackling employment barriers.
- Helps veterans analyze their skill sets and qualifications, and define their preferences, strengths, and abilities to narrow down potential career paths.
- Assist program participants with the development and/or revision of their professional resumes, CVs, or cover letters.
- Assist program participants in accessing occupational resources such as online job databases, employment search platforms, and job fairs.
- Coach participants through their employment search, employment placement, and employment training as necessary; evaluating placement adequacy and resolving problems along the way.
- Provides program participants with information and advice on current employment trends, future job opportunities, job search techniques, training and education opportunities, and transferrable skills. Refers veterans to the job opportunities that are best suited to them.
- Maintains regular contact with veterans, either weekly or biweekly, to monitor their progress with employment goals.
- Able to effectively communicate with program participants, UVBH Staff, external Human Resource Professionals, and prospective employers.
- Develops and maintains a bank of trusted employers, available job opportunities, and providers of job training and educational services, as a resource for qualified veterans.
- Regularly communicates with community partners UVBH has existing relationships with, to keep contact with these prospective employers warm. Schedules regular meetings with new employers to solidify relationships.
- Facilitate introductions between program participants and prospective employers, and assists veterans with coordinating and scheduling job interviews (as necessary).
- Work with partner agencies to streamline hiring processes and facilitate more accessible employment for veterans.
- Coordinate services with the local VA to connect veterans with their Vocational Rehabilitation and other employment programs to assist them in obtaining job skills and experience.
- Able to navigate Information Management Systems (HMIS preferred), ensuring appropriate documentation and maintenance of participants records.
- Utilizes Client Tracking Tools; track, monitors, and records employment placement rates for all program participants; and submits the requisite monthly and quarterly program reports on time.
- Attend local job and resource fairs; participates in appropriate community outreach activities and events.
- Able to collaborate with each program participant’s service team, to rapidly address any issues that may become barriers to employment.
- Act as a role model and peer support for program participants.
- Able to work independently as well as collaboratively; attends required staff meetings and trainings.

**ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS**:

- Workers are representatives of United Veterans Beacon House, Inc., and are therefore expected to conduct themselves in a way that reflects accountability to the agency, the community, and the client system.
- Does not abuse sick time or personal days; always provides proper notification when late or absent.
- Consistently reports to work on time and is ready to begin work at the start of the shift.
- Available to work outside standard working hours and work overtime when necessary.
- Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in the organization’s workflow; able to perform duties independently, with mínimal need of direct supervision.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of clients, shelters/programs, agency and/or UVBH.
- Reports to work well-groomed and in compliance with dress code (wears I.D. badge where necessary/while on duty).
- Demonstrates the ability to interact in a positive and helpful manner with clients, visitors, contract staff, volunteers, and co-workers.
- Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude at the workplace and towards their job.
- Projects a good image in dealing with the public, staff, clients, and other organizations; is willing to make an extra effort to help build a quality and caring shelter or program.
