**DESCRIPTION**:
The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 55 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. As a consortium cancer center, it is a collaborative partnership between the UCSD: encompassing 28 departments, 6 schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Biological Sciences & the School of Physical Sciences), UCSD Health oncology hospitals and clinics; the basic and public health research and outreach of San Diego State University (SDSU), and the basic and translational research of the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI). Under supervision, assist with experiments to study the role of RNA processing dysregulation in pancreatic cancer. Responsibilities include assistance with:1) General maintenance of tumor cell cultures.2) Gene manipulation of these cells with silencing or overexpression constructs.3) Characterization of resultant phenotypes by cellular assays (e.g. proliferation and migration).4) Molecular biology techniques to isolate RNA and quantify gene expression.5) Assess RNA/RNA-binding protein interactions.6) In vivo experiments involving transplanted mouse tumor models.7) Assist with ordering supplies, keeping inventory, and basic laboratory supply management as well as other tasks as required by the supervisor.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Theoretical knowledge of cell biology and molecular biology as typically attained by a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or other related areas, and/or equivalent education and experience.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, autoclaves, and electrophoresis equipment. Ability to perform standard mathematic computations (calculate molarity and dilutions) accurately.
- Experience with basic bacterial and tissue culture techniques and maintenance of sterility.
- Ability to perform basic molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, and plasmid preparation.
- Ability to follow basic research protocols and instructions.
- Ability to assist with performing mouse surgeries, injections, anesthesia, blood and tissue collection, and euthanizing. Ability to prepare basic reagents and cells for animal studies.
- Familiarity with proper handling of chemical and biohazardous materials. Ability to follow UCSD Safety and Hazardous Materials guidelines. Ability and willingness to work with hazardous materials. Understanding of safety procedures and guidelines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work professionally and harmoniously with others on an integrated project. Skilled at prioritizing work to meet all deadlines and accurately document research procedures.
- Organizational skills to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.
