**Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.**
**General Statement**:
The **Athletic Trainer** is responsible for coordinating a safe environment for high school athletic activities, providing injury assessment and management as well as emergency care for high school athletic practices and interscholastic competitions.
The **Athletic Trainer** reports directly to the High School’s Athletic Director. The **Athletic Trainer** will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director in accordance with Connecticut laws and regulations, as well as those stipulated by the Stamford Public Schools.

**Major Responsibilities**:
The Athletic Trainer will practice said profession within the parameters of the Connecticut Athletic Trainers Licensing Law as laid out by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, Connecticut General Statutes Chapter 375a Athletic Training, and will follow both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association. These duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs. The Athletic Trainer’s duties, enumerated in this document, should not be considered all inclusive. The Athletic Director, as necessary, shall modify duties. The Athletic Trainer will be present at home athletic competitions and practices and shall attend other away games, post-season and home-hosted competitions as directed by the Athletic Director.
- Provide coverage at home events and practices from the beginning of the fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season following the CIAC calendar.
- Provide first aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for student-athletes.
- Assist students and families with medical processes when appropriate (including referrals, required paperwork from athlete’s doctors and the insurance process).
- Supervise the clearance process and protocols as prescribed by the state and/or the physicians of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
- Maintain a line of communication with the team physician(s) and school nurse(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation protocols for all athletic injuries.
- Maintain an orderly and efficient athletic training room including ordering of supplies and equipment.
- Maintain communication with parents on the care and treatment of their student-athlete.
- Maintain accurate athletic injury reports and file all necessary reports with school nurse.
- Maintain a daily treatment log.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of supplies and equipment and provide the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment.
- Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads, helmets, or braces.
- Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental and weather related risks at all athletic facilities, both on campus and off campus.
- Share professional literature relative to athletic training with the school’s coaching staff.

- Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, PowerSchool); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.

**Qualifications**:

- Certified Athletic Trainer (BOC)
- CT Dept of Public Health Trainer License
- Prior experience as an Athletic Trainer, Emergency Medical Technician/student, and/or Sports Medicine Training preferred
- Certified in Basic First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and AED use
- Must have completed CIAC Concussion Course
- AED, CPR, First Aid and Concussion certifications
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.
