Job Overview
The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs is responsible for managing and implementing all aspects of the overall administrative planning, staffing, and day-to-day functioning of the School of Medicine’s Office of Student Affairs, to include meeting deadlines for time-critical activities managed by OSA that impact many aspects of student’s progress and success, both academic and non-academic, throughout all four years of medical school.
The Assistant Dean plays a critical and collaborative role in liaising between broader Georgetown University student affairs and services, School of Medicine leadership, and several functional units at the SOM to ensure timely action and comprehensive support of student progress, enrollment, engagement, activities, compliance, residency Match/SOAP, wellbeing, and advising.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs manages two support staff in the Office of Student Affairs and routinely interfaces with School of Medicine leadership, staff across all SOM offices, students & student leadership, and faculty. Further, the Assistant Dean serves as SOM liaison for main campus committees and groups that impact and advance student policies, services, and support.
This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree - _preference _for a Master’s degree
- 3+ years of progressively responsible administrative and management experience in medical education
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including high emotional intelligence and ability to navigate conflict
- General knowledge and understanding of higher education organization, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
- Ability to work independently with mínimal oversight
- Ability to organize, analyze, and report on large amounts of data and information
- Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities under time constraints
- Strong administrative judgment and problem-solving skills, with ability to drive consensus across stakeholders and functional units
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in medical student affairs, to include advising, conduct, compliance, student life, student wellness, advancement, professionalism, Match/SOAP, and programming
- Experience managing and driving long-term projects across varied stakeholders
