JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in the management of all fire department services and activities including fire suppression, fire prevention, fire training, hazardous materials response, disaster preparedness, and related programs, services, and operations.
- Participates in managing the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and priorities for each assigned service area; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
- Establishes, within department and project policy, appropriate service, and staffing levels; monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; allocates resources accordingly.
- Assess and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; implements and directs changes.
- Responds to emergencies and may assume command of field operations; performs a management role in the direction of assigned personnel and equipment at the scene of emergencies involving fire, all types of accidents, hazardous materials incidents, and live-saving and rescue work.
- Assists in directing disaster preparedness and other fire protection programs to minimize the loss of life and property within the community.
- Provides complex administrative and management support as well as staff assistance to the Fire Chief; directs and conducts a variety of organizational studies and investigations; recommends modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
- Participates in a variety of boards, commissions, and committees.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings, stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of fire prevention and suppression.
- Serves as acting Fire Chief as assigned, acts on behalf of the Fire Chief in the absence of the same.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a Fire & Emergency Services Organization (FESO).
- IFSAC or ProBoard certifications to include Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Airport Firefighter, HazMat Incident Commander.
- Prefer BS degree in related field.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with staff, clients, and members of the public.
- Detail orientated, with experience in managing multiple activities.
- Able to work independently and prioritize work in a systematic way.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS
- Physical requirements may include lifting up to 35 lbs., team lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, extended standing, stretching, or bending.
- Ability to sit and concentrate for extended periods, but also have the mobility to respond immediately to emergency incidents.
- Willing to be flexible regarding working hours and respond quickly to time sensitive or urgent requirements.
- Ability to live and work in harsh climatic and austere living conditions to include the potential for moderate to extreme physical danger.
