Parks Operations Manager

The City of South Portland is seeking a Full-time (40 hr/week) Parks Operations Manager/Lead Arborist to join an innovative, proactive and dynamic workforce with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in municipal service within the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department.

This is a non-union position that supervises Parks Department employees and oversees the implementation of parks maintenance and operations and other tasks as assigned. The schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., although the shift may vary slightly. On occasion longer hours/additional work days may be necessary, so flexibility is important with the person in this role.

**Position Summary**: This is a supervisory position that is responsible for directing the day-to-day and long term maintenance of the City’s park system and urban forest.

**Education and Experience**: Graduation from High School or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in Park Management, Turf Management, or a closely related field is preferred.

A minimum of three years of day-to-day supervisory experience involving parks maintenance working for a municipality and at least five years of experience as a municipal or commercial arborist is required.

Must possess and maintain a first-class Maine Arborist’s license and a Maine Class C driver’s license throughout employment. Must also possess a Maine State Pesticide License (operator level) with pertinent category endorsements or have the ability to obtain within the first twelve (12) months of employment.

**Starting Salary Range**: $34.07 - $41.47/hour ($70,870 - $86,273 depending on experience. The position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
