**SUMMARY**:
The preschool teacher is responsible for general supervision and classroom management along with a co-teacher of 3 to 4 staff members and 12 to 20 children between the ages of 2 and 5 in the early education center. Implement and coordinate classroom programs according to the policies and procedures established by _**GCLA.**_ Work closely with other team teachers and staff to meet programmatic goals and objectives and ensure all activities are adapted and modified to meet the needs of the children enrolled. Conduct the Ages & Stages (ASQ-3 & ASQ-SE) and Desired Results System Assessment for children and families. Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in early childhood education by recognizing that we do not all start from the same place.

This role requires working with a co-teacher supervising an associate teacher, assistant teacher, volunteers, and interns. You will follow policies and procedures and adhere to Title 22 and Title 5 regulations by the State of California and the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In addition, the person filling this position must be involved in professional and personal development activities.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:
**Major tasks**:

- **Program**:Ensure a successful, high-quality program by mobilizing center personnel and family members to provide children with meaningful educational and enrichment programming. Follow and implement the daily developmentally appropriate Curriculum with goals and objectives and classroom management. Is knowledgeable of the Ages and Stages of the development program and meets the needs of typical and Special needs children. Demonstrate knowledge of all the domains of development and learning, physical, social-emotional, and cognitive growth.
- **Administration**:Responsibleforthe overall direction of the classroom environment, health, safety, nutrition, families, communities, parent conferences, supplies, and equipment. Establish priorities, organize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage time to complete the program's goals effectively, and ability to integrate curriculum goals and assessment to support group and individualized learning. Develop weekly lesson plans, planning webs, and ongoing assessing children using the Desired Results System.
- **Compliance**:Understands, uses, and embraces professional issues and the need to incorporate NAEYC codes of ethics in educational practice while articulating program philosophy and practices. Stays informed on the latest development and research data. Maintained actual child daily attendance and assisted with monthly meal report submission. Plan and implement one staff training meeting each school year. Participate in training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth. Conduct parent conferences on children's development, adjustment, and classroom behavior.
- **Assessment**: Maintain an ongoing, systematic assessment approach to provide information on the children's learning and development utilizing the reporting system outlined by the California Department of Education's Desired Results Developmental Profile Revised (DRDP Online) and Learning Genie. Maintain a safe and healthy environment by providing developmentally appropriate and well-maintained indoor and outdoor physical environments based on Accreditation Standards of NAECYC, HARM's Early Environmental Rating Scale (ECERS-R), and Quality Start Los Angeles. The teacher must understand the Creative Curriculum for preschool and the major theories behind the developmentally appropriate practice, California Infant/Toddler Learning & Development Foundation, and Preschool Curriculum Framework & Foundation.
- **Teamwork**: Participate in general staff and teacher's team meetings to ensure services meet program goals and objectives. Models and promotes understanding of children's and adults' emotional, social, moral, and physical development.
- **Professional Development and Quality Improvement**:Participate in ongoing career-related and job-related professional development activities. Teachers will develop an Individualized Training Plan. In addition, teachers will have specialized college-level coursework or professional development training in early childhood development, annual self-assessment, professional development training, program's Curriculum and child assessment, special needs, Conscious Discipline, developmental stages, and ages.
- **Health & Safety**:Promote wellness to safeguard the health and safety of children and adults. Take steps to reduce occupational hazards such as infectious diseases.
