We are opening a new campus this fall in Echo Park and are hiring a new team of teachers for the new location. The Preschool Teacher at SLCC is a qualified and energized educator with experience working with ages 2 to 6 years old who will work in a co-teaching environment up to 5 days a week in a mixed-age classroom. All staff members have a growth-mindset and collaborative spirit. They must be open to learning new approaches to teaching under the guidance of their supervisor, have strong conflict-resolution skills, be professional, be familiar with Reggio Emilia philosophy and integrate research in early childhood education on an ongoing basis.

Our Preschool Teachers are responsible for creating learning goals for children that support our inquiry and research-based program for preschool children with an emphasis on project-based learning, child-directed inquiry, co-constructed meaning, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The Preschool Teacher is the classroom Co-Teacher and works under the direct supervision of the School Lead Teacher, Head of School, and Assistant Director.

**Essential Responsibilities**

1. Assists with supervision of 15 children daily overseeing children’s social-emotional and physical needs of the classroom learning community. Work with mixed-age children in the classroom daily, including in planning and preparing provocations and projects, curriculum development aligned with the aforementioned SLCC mission, research, and philosophy, regular documentation of emergent learning, transitions, and circle times.

2. Ensure the supervision, safety and well-being of children and classroom teaching team daily including moving staff with children as they change locations throughout the day.

3. Welcome and greet each child and family at arrival and departure time daily.

4. Begin each preschool day in nature and spend more than 50% of time outside in nature.

5. Provide collaboration and leadership support with classroom teaching staff to develop and write innovative curriculum and projects based on children’s interests, inquiries investigations and experiences in community and involve our referenced research.

6. Utilize teaching tools of observation, documentation, provocation, discussion and planning daily for individual children’s goals and small group learning communities.

7. Develop learning provocations with classroom teaching staff based on implementing a creative, emergent, research-based curriculum that meets children’s individual interests and needs as well as the classroom community of learners.

8. Assess children’s developmental learning and progress through observation, documentation, writing, letters, work samples, photographs, and videos through an individual portfolio collection.

9. Provide and track bi-yearly assessment and questionnaire tools for a group of children and support the classroom learning community to meet developmental needs, skills and foundations of learning measurements.

10. Effectively communicate, plan, and evaluate children’s progress with co-teachers and families about children’s development, skills, goals for building strengths, and developmental tracking through portfolio collection work and assessment tools. Work collaboratively as a team to collect, display, and disseminate documentation of children’s work. This includes taking intentional observation notes, meaningful photos at the child’s eye-level, and capturing quotes of the children’s process.

11. Set professional goals each year and evaluate goals, professional growth, lead teaching responsibilities and performance with teachers and administrators.

12. Participate in all scheduled professional development each year with onsite training and community workshops, seminars and conferences.

13. Participate in weekly staff planning meetings for classroom and operational duties.

14. Guide and support classroom staff with bi-yearly evaluation feedback. 15. Maintain positive communication with all program participants, volunteers and visitors.

16. Follow SLCC ethos, mission, philosophy and policies.

17. Assist with organizing and maintaining of classroom environment, equipment and supplies. 18. Assist in the care of classroom materials and report any issues or concerns with Teachers and supervisors.

19. Notify Lead Teacher of needed supplies.

20. Ability to set up, take-down and maintain all activities and learning areas of the preschool campus environment.

21. Arrive when scheduled to prepare and set-up for indoor and outdoor classrooms.

22. Follow health and safety standards and practices of required state regulatory agencies.
