**POSITION**: SUPERVISOR OF TRANSPORTATION**

**LOCATION**: DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION**

***: Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Transportation with the coordinating and supervising various parts of the student transportation system for Calvert County Public Schools. The person must have knowledge of transportation policies, procedures, and regulations; and excellent communication skills both verbally and written with community members, parents, school staff, state and local agencies, bus drivers and bus contractors.

**REPORTS TO**: Director of Transportation

**EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- At least three (3) years of successful administrative experience in a school or public transportation setting.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in administration and supervision preferred.
- Satisfactory driving record.
- National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT) Supervisor certification preferred.
- Eligible for and obtain in the first year of employment a Maryland Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with passenger, school bus and air brake endorsements.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local public school transportation laws, regulations and policies including Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize and promote equitable practices in all facets of education.
- Understanding and ability to maintain rapport with people from all identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DoT) drug testing policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of student transportation routing and use of routing software.
- Knowledge of GPS and use of GPS tracking software.
- Knowledge of Calvert County roads and traffic patterns.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Office 365.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to diffuse situations.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent mapping and routing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various members of the organization.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions.

- Demonstrated ability to develop, monitor and evaluate performance measures.

- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the duties and responsibilities listed below.

**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES**:

- Assists the Director of Transportation with the operation of the Transportation Department.
- Supervises and assists with the planning and implementing of regular, regional and out of county bus routes.
- Communicates with parents, concerned citizens, school staff, bus contractors and bus drivers regarding bus routes.
- Supervises all data for bus routes to ensure required records and reports are maintained and submitted on time.
- Ensures that a process for development and continuous improvement of bus routes is established so that school buses arrive and depart within school arrival/dismissal windows.
- Supports the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures, handbooks, and guidance for the Department of Transportation.
- Collaborates and implements a continuous improvement plan that addresses both immediate concerns, and long-term goals for the department and provides status/updates as needed.
- Works with the Financial Accountant to review and verify bus contractor pay.
- Provided information regarding transportation schedules, policies and procedures as needed.
- Monitors weather conditions that may affect the safe transportation of students and advises the Director of problem areas, this will include driving roads during inclement weather.
- Assists the Director with supervision of employees and the evaluation of drivers.
- Assists the Director with interviews for job applicants.
- Assist the Driver Trainer with the training of bus assistant and school vehicle inspections.
- Assists the oversite of the bus camera, and GPS systems both installation and use.
- Assists with arranging and overseeing various school system meetings.
- Collaborates on the development and implementation of staff development and training for transportation staff, bus assistants, contractors, and bus drivers.
