Job Summary

In support of the Safety and Security Management Team, the incumbent supervises Security staff and exercises considerable independence of action and judgement. The incumbent is responsible for communicating and working in a collaborative manner with the Security staff, other Safety and Security Divisions, the Safety and Security Management Team, and the College community to ensure the Security Division continues to provide quality, timely, and reliable service, and that related projects and initiatives are successfully completed. Specific Duties · Provide supervision, direction, guidance and coaching to Security staff.· Monitor quality of work performed and productivity of all Security staff, and provide positive constructive feedback to staff ensuring safety, quality and productivity expectations set by Safety and Security Management are being achieved.· Ensure staff receive orientation, on-going training, and instruction.· Ensure staff understand and follow safety regulations and safe work practices.· Ensure all work is carried out according to priority, predetermined procedures, and other schedules as approved by Safety and Security Management.· Assist in preparing, issuing, reviewing, and executing standard operating procedures, standing orders, first aid protocols, and security-related work requests and work plans for Security staff.· Prepare, issue, review, and execute patrol plans/schedules covering all areas of campus.· Prepare, issue, review, and execute lock and unlock routines/schedules securing and opening doors, windows, gates, etc. at set times and when required.· Use and monitor security management systems such as, but not limited to, CCTV systems and door access controls systems.· Provide input into and assist in preparing Security staff appraisals and progress reports.· Monitor and maintain inventory of security and first aid supplies and equipment and restock as required.· Perform or assist in investigating security incidents including but not limited to: writing reports, reviewing CCTV footage, speaking with CNC staff and public, communicating with RCMP, etc.· Provide first aid and complete all required documentation.· Assist and monitor employees and visitors (i.e., public, contractors) on-site after regular business hours.· Assist with emergency procedures including but not limited to fire alarms and emergency evacuation.· Monitor and inspect emergency systems in all areas.· Ensure that all work is carried out with the least amount of disruption to affected areas and the college community.· Make recommendations to Safety and Security Management on best courses of action to resolve issues, and ways to improve safety, costs, save time, increase service quality, increase productivity, etc.· Assist in hiring process for future guards.· May be required to be on-call as required.· May be required to travel to regional campuses to lend support.· Keep current with industry/news changes and emerging techniques and technology.· You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.· You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.· Other duties as assigned by Director or designate. Skills & Qualifications · High School completion plus additional advanced courses in Basic Security Training certificate.
· Must hold a valid British Columbia Security Worker licence.
· 5 years or more experience in institutional building security, preferably in a leadership or supervisory role, or proven equivalent experience as determined by the College.
· Occupational First Aid Level II certificate required.· Must have or be able to obtain Management Skills for Supervisors Certification or equivalent.· Formal training and experience in operating Track-Tik and Milestone is an asset.· Must have experience training and coaching new and existing staff.· Ability to organize, prepare, and issue security patrols and inspections.· Demonstrated experience providing positive motivation and supervision to staff.· Ability to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships, and work harmoniously with others.· Experience with the use of various security software systems, CCTV systems, access control systems, first aid equipment, and communication tools.· Ability to work with minimal supervision in a self-directed work environment.· Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and excellent organizational skills.· Must possess a valid minimum Class 7 novice (N) BC driver’s license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.· Must have good computer skills including but not limited to MS Office Suite, Email, Internet searches etc.· Must maintain a clear criminal record and report any infractions.· Must be bondable.· Physical ability to complete the job.
