**TITLE**: District Instructional Mentor (0.5 FTE)

This is a Grant Funded position.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
To mentor beginning teachers, years 1-3, in an effort to build teacher efficacy.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Three (3) years of school or district experience
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Attributes and styles of positive critiques
- Classroom observation skills
- Strategies for conducting constructive feedback
- Problem-solving skills
- Formative assessment and self-assessment
- A demonstrated and articulated belief in the capabilities of all educators and students
- Successful experience mentoring and/or coaching educators
- Excellent professional role model: positive, collaborative, growth mindset, reflective, solution-oriented
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Commitment to ongoing personal professional growth and learning to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be an effective coach of adult learners
- National Board Certification preferred
- Co-teaching experience preferred

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Establishes communication and working relationships with school administration, district administrative units, and instructional coaches.
- Assists in accomplishing district goals.
- Communicate the work of the new teacher induction program within the district and the community.
- Differentiate mentor support based on prior teaching experience for teachers new to the district.
- Visit beginning teacher's classrooms and support teachers in professional growth.
- Establish beginning teacher need based on classroom observations.
- Collaborate with district and school staff to design a system of support based on beginning teacher needs
- Meet with beginning teachers in a plan, observe, debrief cycle (coaching cycles)
- Evaluate data and revise beginning teacher mentor supports and schedule based on best practice.
- Maintain professional growth through graduate and/or staff development courses, professional organizations, seminars, and/or professional literature.
- Schedule quarterly meetings with building administrators to discuss progress relevant to the needs of the new teachers.
- Collect data on each beginning teacher on case load to provide program lead an overview of time logs, the number of coaching cycles, and goal progression for the beginning teachers.
- Consistent with the induction program, observe and provide coaching for new/novice teachers in buildings and arrange for mentee observations and collaboration with other teachers as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality.
